Not surprising at all. Some of us were thinking this could very well happen for the PS3 w/ just some software update/enhancement (to go along w/ whatever normally needed gear, eg. special 3D goggles/glasses possibly via Bluetooth instead of IR for wireless connectivity).

This is one of the reasons I give to people to seriuosly consider the PS3 for a current BD player purchase. The PS3 is simply far more upgradeable (for futureproofing on such things) than any other BD player currently available. And since it'll basically be Sony's lifeblood well into the next decade, I gotta think Sony will do everything reasonable to leverage the platform and give us those kinds of upgrades for the forseeable future -- if done right, such a 3D upgrade will no doubt help them in the gaming market too.
