Please help, so confused

I have an onkyo txsr804 and I like the price of the sony s350. Let me see if I can explain this right. I think I need a blu player that has all the decoders in it to send it pcm to my receiver. And if it doesen't I thought I read some where, that I can update this machine to do so. But will this receiver accept them and play all the newer sounds they have today. Thanks

Not over HDMI. Your HDMI is version 1.1, which is really just for video switching. I don't think version 1.1 handles audio at all. Don't you still have to run a digital coax or optical cable for your audio from dvds?

You can get the Sony BDP-S550. It decodes internally, and has 7.1 multi-channel analog outputs, and your receiver has 7.1 multi-channel analog inputs. You can get the HD audio that way. You might be able to get a deal on the S550 tomorrow (Black Friday).
