I have a copy of Birdman and The Galaxy Trio available for trade.

I'll be hitting at least one tonight and taking peoples want lists with me.
It will probably be Thursday before I head back.  Everybody check my list and tell me if you want anything.  I'll be more than happy.

If I remember right, Pinky and the Brain as well as Animanics are both $6 each.  Nightmares and Dreamscapes are the same way.  Most is $3.

Called the one location I was planning to go to today. They got no new stock in, and the girl said that previous stock 'may be a once in a lifetime thing'. I know for a fact that one of the other stores got multiple shipments in already, so I won't give up hope just yet. I'll be checking/calling that store tomorrow to see if they get anything.
I finally stopped by today.  $3 titles I got are Salvador, Ride with the Devil, Brick and Flintstones S3.  Got Joey S1 for $6.  I always thought that was actually a pretty funny show, plus the hottie factor is worth $6 alone.  Did it just go 2 seasons?  I seem to recall Madchen Amick, talking about hottie factor.

Made the journey to another store today.  They only had a fraction of the DVD selection of my local store (odd, since the other store is in a town at least 3x as big as mine), but they did have some other selections.  I got:

Pinky & the Brain Vol. 2
Animaniacs Vol. 2
Wait Till Your Father Gets Home S1

Never heard of "Wait Till...," but figured for 25 cents an episode, I'd take a chance. It's a Hanna-Barbera animated series with Tom Bosley as the voice of the father.
Mine has 1 "Wait til" but it's $6. Never heard of it either.  I looked at clips on youtube.  Looks like All in the Family.  I'll probably grab that when the smoke clears on all these other deals...unless it's gone.

There is a story in the Hollywood Reporter that Warner is suing a company that they hired to dispose of millions of dollars worth of DVDs.  They are suing because, instead of destroying them as the company was paid to do, and they said they did, they instead turned around and sold them to a third party that is selling them cheaply.

While Big Lots isn't named in the suit (and most likely didn't realize they were doing anything wrong) many are speculating this recent flooding of Warner product at the stores is a result of this.

It makes sense.  Why only $3 for what were $60 DVDs?

In any case, looks like you can stop looking at Big Lots for the animation sets.  Last time I went, they were cleaned out anyway.

I'll be checking mine today and cleaning them out myself.  Hopefully they will have something.

Very very interesting story.  I feel bad for WB having their products cheapened like this.  Even though they never helped me with a skipping gilligan's island DVD.  I was kind of hoping gilligan sets would appear so I could get my doggone replacement THAT WAY!!!  :p

I'm wondering how the disposal company thought they could get away with it? Did they think word would never get back to Warner about these sales? Seems like business suicide.

I've got a few to trade and some wants if anyone has a match.

To trade I have:

Batman The Animated Series Volume Four
Top Cat
Flintstones Season 2 (sealed)
Space Ghost & Dino Boy
and can get a Josie and the Pussycats and Pebbles and Bamm Bamm (I'd have to check and see if they're still there)

I need:

Scooby Doo, Where Are You? Season 3
Scooby Doo and Dynomutt
Lois and Clark Season 4
Looney Tunes 2,3,4,5
Jonny Quest

Thanks.
Ron

Lois & Clark season 3.  2 of these.  Both appear to have a floater inside, although I gave them each a slight bit of pressure and that reseated the dvds for shipping purposes.  I'll return this weekend if nobody wants em.    Speak up or forever hold your peace!
Lois & Clark Season 4.  No floater.  Ron_B, you want this?  I'll take that Top Cat off your hands for it.  :)  Id also buy or trade for Josie and the Pussy cats.
Let me know!  I kept 1 good one of each for my on selfish self.  :p

There are plenty of Popeye Vol1 at my store.  About 8 or so.  $3 is amazing for such a set.  Cartoon history.  I can pick up one for everybody who wants one this weekned.

2 or so Wacky races.

Tracey Takes on.  About 6.

Still some Animaniac.  $6 each.

A few Flintstones Season 1 and 3 opened.  I promised 1 Season 1 to somebody else.  But I can keep looking.

Interesting news that came out in the last couple days. It's like the shoe finally dropped. Everything suddenly makes sense and order is again being restored in the universe.
It seems certain now that we won't be seeing these $3 sets still spilling onto the shelves a month from now.

Glad I grabbed what I did when I did. I regret returning most of the other stuff though.

I took a trip to the one store that's been the best in this area, and they were just about picked clean. Just a few Larry King and Dukes Season 6 sets left, and a couple Hot Wheels. Even the $3 single movie titles were significantly thinned out from a week or two ago.
The one oddity though was I saw the first Bd sets I've seen in this area- Nip & Tuck (forgot what season). I could hear floaters though, so I didn't bother picking it up. That gave me a glimmer of hope that made me want to push ahead to the other BL about 15 miles away, but my engine light came on and I just couldn't risk a major break down to maybe score something, but more likely not.

Oh well.
it was interesting while it lasted.

I'll take it, Radioman. I sent you a message with the details.

Thanks.

Glad to have an explanation to the mystery as to why/how this was happening.

Sure wish I'd come across either the Imax or LT 1-5 boxes for $10.  Unbelievably great.

Got these for myself - Tales From The Crypt 1-5, Animaniacs 1 and 2, Pinky and the Brain 1 and 2, Superman Animated 1, Flintstones 2-5, Popeye 1, Roots: Next Generation, Night Court 1.  Gifts for others - Tales From The Crypt 1-5, Popeye 1, Murphy Brown 1, Veronica Mars 2.

I have an extra (third copy) Popeye set, for eventual trade/gift/whatever.

I decided I'd been spending too much money (between this and the deepdiscount sale) and opted on last Friday or Saturday morning not to give up $12 on the four boxes of the 50s George Reeves Superman, but... I kinda wish I'd gone the other way on that.  Oh, well...

If anybody has an extra Roots (original series, 30th), Animaniacs 3, Pinky and the Brain 3, Flintstones 1 (or 6, but I don't know if any of those were out there in this, TFTC 6 and 7, as well), or Looney Tunes GC 6 that they'd let go of cheaply (or in trade for a Popeye 1), let me know, thanks...

There was another report that these DVD's are in fact stolen.  Does anybody else consider this raining on our parade?  I thought something was very fishy about this entire situation.  The Warner DVD-A and CD's at Dollar Tree I picked up are suspect as well now.

Warner DVD-A's at Dollar Tree?!?!?!

Dammit!  How'd I miss out on this news?  Was this a long time ago, Chris?  Might I still find some at my local Dollar Trees?  Is there a thread somewhere giving title listings that were floating around?!?  Crap, crap, crap.
I was in Dollar Tree not long ago and they had the same crap.  I didn't go yesterday.  I'll have to stop by there this weekend if there's still a chance....

I'm also interested in how long ago it was for Dollar Tree.  I was wondering if some of the other discount stores, like Dollar General, Family Dollar, have stuff as well....  Guess I'll make several stops tomorrow...  They sure make us run all over town many many days in a row just to get some stolen merchandise!!!

"Same crap" meaning cheap plastic housewares...or some kind of electronic media, James?

Whatever happened to the "good old days" when they'd drive up to you and sell it out of the trunks of their cars?!?

I wonder if Warner Bros found out thru the posts on this forum about the box sets turning up at Big Lots. I also wonder if they only had the rights to sell the movies, since Warner and MGM/UA movies have been available for over a year,

I wonder this, because yesterday at my local Big Lots they had a new display of classic movies for sale, but no new box sets.

I don't know about this forum as things have been very quiet around here but another popular DVD forum had over 1000 posts and over 60,000 views in a Big Lots thread about the sale, created just this past week.  This has been a very popular topic on DVD message boards around the web.

Warner must have caught on, or saw the Big Lots ad, and went and did something about it.

Radioman970,

I was messaging you that I found your other item and was going to send it out when you let me know your address but I guess I only am able to send 4 messages a day, so it wouldn't send. Ugh!

Thanks.
Ron

Actually, I don't know if Warner's would be able to do anything about it. Big Lots is a retailer like any other. While they're not really a dollar store, they do buy their merchanfdise in bulk from a distributor and they buy in bulk at a discount.

I imagine that if Warner's found out about this that they have put the clamps down on whoever Big Lots distributor was. At any rate, I hope that the boxed sets will still keep coming as Big Lots, if they have any left, will continue filtering the remaining of those boxed sets.
I just discovered the big deal over these Big Lots DVD Boxed Sets.

Apparently, Warner Brother contracted out to have nearly one million surplus DVD's and DVD boxed sets destroyed by a company who was contracted to do ther destruction on these defective and surplus DVD.s Instead of destroying these DVD's, the companies involved provided Warner Brothers with a fraudulent certificate of destruction and sold the DVD's at heavy discounts to other markets.

Warner Brothers has filed a $10 million dollar lawsuit against the company who was responsible for destroying these DVD's and Warner Brother's says that there are 250,000 DVD titles that are, as of yet, unaccounted for.

Finally made it to a Big Lots after reading this thread. Picked up the Roots 30th Anniversary Edition, Popeye Vol. 1 and Batman:The Animated Series Vol. 4.

No Flintstones, no LT Golden Collections , no BD Smallville. There were about 15-20 Josie & the Pussycats sets, a Wacky Racers, a bunch of Joey Season 1 and what looked like a gazillion Larry King sets.

If I hadn't gotten a BD player a while back, I would've dropped way more coin on a bunch of those $3 movies.

Interesting stuff about WB.  It is a relief they aren't abandoning cartoon releases, vintage TV shows or anything like that.  They were just taken advantage of (erm, by us too... )

Still, I'm anxious to find the Looney Toons sets before this ends.  What an amazing experience all this has been!

And with that...Good luck to WB.  They pretty much have somebody by the you-know-whats.  And I hope they get all the loss back in court.

I still don't get the concept of destroying DVD's, rather than selling them.  Still seems better to me to make a few million dollars than to actually spend money to have someone destroy them.  Much like any retailer who marks down merchandise for clearance or "quick sale" rather than just tossing it in the dumpster and increasing your trash disposal costs while missing out on additional sales.  Conceptually, it's also no different than all the DVD's that are blown out by Walmart at $3-$5 in their displays and dump bins. Are those all "stolen" discs, too?

I think Warner is just pissed they didn't think of the Big Lots idea first.   If it is the Big Lots items we're talking about. It seems a rather longshot coincidence, but I haven't seen any retailers identified by name in any legitimate news source.
