The QUO VADIS documentary offers some fascinating clips from NOAH'S ARK (1928). Directed by Michael Curtiz from a screenplay by Darryl Zanuck, NOAH'S ARK was two-thirds a modern story and one-third a Biblical story. I understand that the film underwent a restoration about a decade ago. It stars George O'Brien and Myrna Loy and the QUO VADIS documentary showed some very impressive clips of the flood scenes. Several extras drowned during the making of these scenes (John Wayne is listed as appearing in the Biblical sequences). Does anyone know anything about the potential dvd status of the film?
Equally intriguing was the clip of THE PRIDE OF THE MARINES (1945) on the "Warners at War" doc on the THIS IS THE ARMY disc. It's a shoo-in for the John Garfield collection if that ever reachs fruition, but the Al Schmid story is significant in any context since it predates THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES. I would like to think that WB is "testing the waters" for these films (and MISSION TO MOSCOW and CONFESSIONS OF A NAZI SPY) by their inclusion in these documentaries.
