WILL DVI WORK

Thread Starter
OK HERES MY QUESTON, I CURRENTLY HAVE A 40" HIGH DEF TUBE CRT TV WITH A DVI IMPUT ON THE BACK. THIS YEAR I WILL BE UPGRADING MY HOME THEATER RECEIVER TO A DENON 1909/789 AND PURCHASING A BLU RAY PLAYER AND 2 MORE SPEAKERS FOR 7.1. MY T.V IS GREAT SO I'LL BE USING THAT A LITTLE WHILE LONGER.

HERE'S MY QUESTIONS

1. CAN I RUN MY BLU RAY TO MY RECEIVER VIA HDMI AND THEN MY BLU RAY TO THE TV VIA COMPONENT WILL THIS WORK FOR ME TO RECEIVE DOLBY TRU HD AND DTS MASTER HD.

OR WOULD IT BE BETTER TO RUN HDMI TO MY RECEIVER FROM THE BLU RAY AND THEN AN HDMI TO DVI FROM RECEIVER TO T.V

2. SINCE MY T.V IS 4:3 DO THESE NEW BLU RAY PLAYERS ALLOW YOU TO CHANGE THE PICTURE SIZE SO I COULD FILL MY SCREEN.

MY MAIN GOAL HERE IS TO GET AMAZING SOUND IN HI DEF SO NEXT YEAR I COULD GET THE FLAT PANEL AND I'M READY TO GO.

PLEASE ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

HDMI to component is called "down conversion". Most receivers don't allow this. Not sure if the receivers you are considering do this or not but a peek at their owners manuals (available on-line) should tell you.

This would be better, but sometimes there are "handshake" issues with HDMI to DVI.

Just about all dvd players have a screen size setting in the setup menu. Whether it would fill the screen or leave black bars when set to 4:3 I'm not sure.
