surge protectors/power conditioner

hey all,

im thinking about purchasing a surge protector/conditioner for my HT. Currently running Onkyo 605 with KEF Q series all around, Sony BDSP300, 52" Sony W4100, X-Box 360, and HD Cable/DVR box. Do I need one for starters, or is it a false sense of security? If yes, I am thinking the Panamax MAX5300-EX... or any suggestions? If no, what should I get that will make me feel a little better than the $25 special I picked up that desperately needs a replacement? I just get nervous considering by building got hit by lightning a couple months ago, and the damage could have been devastating (to my HT anyways! )

I am inthe same boat here and would like to know the same thing. My set up is as follows:

Integra DTR 7.8 RecieverParadigm Monitor Series speakers with the Ultracubre 10" subwoofer
Samsung 50" DLP HDTV
Dish Network VIP 722
Nintendo Wii
PS3
I will also have my PC, wirless router, and a printer hooked up in this system.

That is 9 outlets I need. I have tried to read reviews of everything and I cannot get a straight answer. DO I need some exotic Monster power conditioner that I end up having to spend $300 on or will a simple surge protector work? There are other brands of protectors that promise the same protection as well as a connected equipment warranties such as from Belkin or Phillips. I just need to know what is the best thing I could do given my setup.

If anyone is still reading this thread, I believe that my Panamax M5300EX has paid for itself. We have overhead power lines in our neighborhood, so surges happen sometimes. Lightning hit a pole not far from our house, and since then there's been strange issues with appliances, particularly with our relatively new fridge, which has since flooded our kitchen twice! The fix was to replace two solid state controllers in the fridge, but there's been no problems at all with our theater equipment.
