Hello Gents. I'm new to your Forum. I would like to know if any of you out there, own and have had issues with your VR 5090..I have owned this receiver since new, for 5 years now. { I only use my system on weekends }Never had an issue until about 1 month ago, I went to watch a regular dvd, had no sound and wasn't detecting my incoming signal from the player. No Dolby Digital or DTS.It does this on both players { Toshiba and Sony} that I have connected .. After playing with the reciever for several minutes, pressing the listen button and the input mode, it works again until I stop the movie. Once I restart the movie the same issue starts again. I've changed the optical cable and coaxial. Changed to the different video inputs in the back. No dice. What gives?........thanks............ If its going belly up, Please recommend a Good Midrange receiver. Must have THX. Max I would spend is about $1,400.00....Thanks again Gents....

Re: Kenwood VR 5090 issues
It does sound like your 5 yr. old receiver has seen it's better days. You might want to look at this one:
Amazon.com: Onkyo TX-SR805 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black): Audio & Video
The Onkyos are giving a lot of bang for the buck! This can handle the new HD audio formats found on blu ray movies. Has 3 HDMI inputs for today's stuff to hookup to, it's THX Ultra2 certified, has 3 zone capability, plenty of power, and even has a phono input, for those with a turntable. I wouldn't put it in a closed in entertainment center though. It's known to run pretty warm.
You can see the whole list of features and specs here:
