Timed for the Theatrical Remake, Horror Mastermind Wes Craven’s Terrifying First Film Reveals Its True Nature On Collector’s Edition DVD February 24th From MGM Home Entertainment

Dripping With All-New Features Including Actors’ Commentary, Featurettes, Never-Before-Seen Outtakes, Craven’s Annotated Shooting Scripts And More

LOS ANGELES, CA – Mari, 17, is dying. But the worst for her is yet to come. From legendary writer-director Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream) comes one of the most unnerving and shocking horror films of all-time, when his debut feature film The Last House on the Left arrives in a DVD Collector’s Edition February 24th from MGM Home Entertainment. A collaboration with producer Sean S. Cunningham (Friday the 13th), Craven’s 1972 classic is credited with introducing a sense of realistic and primal violence to the horror genre along with three of the most sadistic and terrifying killers to ever cross the big screen. “A neglected American horror exploitation masterpiece on a par with Night of the Living Dead” (Roger Ebert), The Last House on the Left Collector’s Edition is packed with all-new bonus features including commentary by actors David Hess, Marc Sheffler and Fred Lincoln and over 80 minutes of featurettes including all-new interviews with Wes Craven, a deleted scene featuring Mari dying at the lake, never-before-seen outtakes and Craven’s annotated shooting scripts, among others.

The only thing more shocking than the movie is the actor commentary where they brag about raping women. Their commentary is certainly the strangest I've ever heard.

And the commentary does not represent the views of MGM or its parent company...

That is shocking. I never listened to the commentary on that one. So the actors were just as pathetic as their characters, huh?

They seem exactly like their characters. I really hope it was just an act for the commentary but it's pretty creepy. I'm curious if MGM will listen to it before releasing it and edit some of the comments. Anchor Bay UK originally released the track as well as some of the new extras.

DVD Times - The Last House on the Left R1 CE in February

(disgusting!)

the uk edition is a 3-discer with way more extensive supplements and the package is not designed to trick thoughtless morons into thinking they're buying a jennifer love hewitt teen slasher flick. easy choice here!

DVD Times - The Last House on the Left R2 Ultimate Edition in October

Re: MGM Press Release: The Last House on the Left: Collector's Edition

I'd wait for reviews before jumping on that R2. I've owned three different R2 versions of this and all of them featured a lesser transfer compared to the MGM R1. The special features on the R2 set are also a tad bit misleading because the "alternate version" just features a different title. No extra scenes or anything like that. The third disc's documentary "Going to Pieces" is available on R1 and plays on television quite a bit.

Incorrect. The Krug And Company alternate version has a longer version of the sequence where Mari is found at the lake, and its made more obvious that she is still alive when her parents find her for her last moments...

Re: MGM Press Release: The Last House on the Left: Collector's Edition

The German disc has that "alternate scene" included in the regular movie on the DVD. I've even heard reports that the Canadian VHS had this scene as well but I'm not sure about that. What I should have said is that no one is going to prefer that version as it's still cut to pieces unless AB UK went back and put that scene into the uncut version of the movie. On the original AB disc that extra scene runs all of seven seconds so it's not going to add much and it still doesn't make it worth importing. In one of the interviews Craven even talks about that and it appears this scene was cut even before the U.S. release (although Craven can't be trusted too much as he has changed his story several times).
