Those CNN Holograms -- Not!

You've probably seen them and they keep calling them holograms and I don't think they are. The look to me to be similar to the first down lines being superimposed during football broadcasts. The lines appear to be on the field, but they aren't and only the tv viewers see them.

I think it's the same with these CNN "holograms". Wolf Blitzer doesn't see the person being hologramed, the hologram person is being added to the picture and then broadcast.

If this were an actual hologram, Wolf could see the person almost as if he/she were standing there. Do I have this right or is my idea of a hologram completely wrong?

Re: Those CNN Holograms -- Not!

A real hologram is an optical image created by diffracted light.

But "hologram" has become a layman's jargon for any sort of futuristic 3D image or virtual creation. What CNN did was computer graphics overlay, greenscreening, etc. -- like with the football game overlays.
