Michael Crichton died

This was a pretty big shock to me. He'd apparently been privately battling cancer for a while. I've read almost all of his books. The Great Train Robbery was one of the most fascinating things I've read because of the terrific background on Victorian England that he provides throughout. In fact, the plot was very much secondary to all of that.

They're going to need a really big coffin. He was 6'9"!

Re: Michael Crichton died

Conincidently, I re-read "The Andromeda Strain" "Jurassic Park" and "Sphere" recently, just finishing "Sphere" a few days ago.

Obviously, I was a big fan of his novels.

He usually publishes a new novel, is it every 2 or 3 years?, around the holidays. Anyone know if he was working on anything before his death.

I can't believe the news either.

I can remember reading his books in high school and early part of college, most of which I read before they got turned into movies. I thought Sphere and Congo were his best.

Wow! That's surprising to me. I had no idea he was ill. I was a big fan in college and grad school.

Re: Michael Crichton died

When I was in high school, Sphere was released in theaters and the science students had to read the novel for class. I didn’t because I was in the advanced class but I even asked my teacher if I could read it anyway, perhaps for extra credit. He declined.

I’ve been on a Crichton kick lately (in between Star Trek novels). In his memory, I think I’ll try to seek out The Great Train Robbery at the library this weekend and read it with Jerry Goldsmith’s score for the film playing in the background.

On a lighter note, a friend and I saw Crichton’s movie Runaway last year (in HD!). I had only seen bits and pieces of it before but, afterwards, we couldn’t have a conversation without one of us calling the other one, “Ramsaaaay!” No wonder Gene Simmons doesn’t act more often.

Yes, his new novel was scheduled to be released next month. It's now been pushed back to May.

Wow...sad news. I've really enjoyed many of his books over the years and it is too bad that there will not be more in the future.
