I'm a little confused here.... These have existed for quite some time. There are some Bluray players like my Panasonic BD30 that only bitstream and the AVR has to decode. For this to happen, you must use HDMI.

Maybe..... It depends on the player and the AVR. I'll defer to someone who has done this, but I believe the results should be excellent.

There shouldn't be any difference. You can still use optical or digital coax.
