Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

Hey, Parker. All your banner ads just above the thread listings on your index pages are showing up like this on both my home and work computers (XP/Firefox). The ads are crammed into the right-hand one-third of a too-tall banner area. Been like that for a couple of days now.

Actually they have been like that for a few weeks now. That is now they are supposed to look and normally they would have text in the area that is on the left but there is nothing to put in there for the time being.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

Has something changed with the way this forum sends emails alerting of posts to subscribed threads? I used to dependably get these for any thread I was subscribed to, even when it was a resurrected thread from years ago, and one would come for EVERY post to the thread.

Lately, I seem to be missing them, with the forum now acting like some other forums I belong to, where I'll get notice for ONE post, but not more than one UNTIL I visit the Forum.

Is this the new policy?

Also, one other oddity - this morning, while looking for perhaps a top-level post on this very subject, I clicked on the HOME THEATER FORUM logo on the top of a Forum page. I was then directed to a McAfee page saying that they'd tested the site I was trying to access and that the site was verified as hijacking browsers!

My hope is that that was a McAfee Virus Protection fluke and not something that's going on with the HTF, but I wanted to at least alert Packer in this thread.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

Sounds like McAfee was the one doing the hijacking, Harry!

Seriously, though, I hope there's no problem of that sort.

I cannot comment on the e-mail notifications because I have them turned off.

Harry:

I will look into the subscription issue. The McAfee issue has to be on your end.

Harry:

I looked at your account and you should be getting instant emails. There is something odd going on with your computer if you suddenly stopped getting instant emails and the McAfee issue popped up. For me all is working as it should.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

Is there an expiration date, perhaps, for email subscriptions?

The example that tipped me off that something wasn't right was the "Taking Of Pelham 123 - anamorphic?" thread in the standard movie DVD forum.

I started the thread a few years ago, and recently saw the trailer for the new version. When I used the search function to find the thread, I saw that there had been a bunch of recent posts to the thread, and yet I received no notice via email.

I like that feature. It lets a thread go dormant for years, and whenever it's revived, I get alerted on subjects I'm interested in.

But this time, I'd gotten no notice at all. Perhaps I need to check my personal subscription for that particular thread?

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

I stopped getting email notifications once, I came here moaning to Parker, and he tried his best to find out why this was happening. Next day, still no mail, "but chief I'm not even getting notifications for your replies in this thread" I bleated. I went back into the control panel, everything seemed okay. Parker suggested changing my email address. I was about to until I looked in my gmail spam folder which was full of notification emails. I must have accidentally hit 'spam' instead of 'delete' on one of the emails.

Oh and sometimes if a thread is old enough you can lose the email link, it's happened to me a few times, and yes I did look in the spam folder.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

the email sus are sometimes very strange.
Usually here i get them when i expect to, but just now as i was going through my email i got an email notice form a post i made at steve hoffman's board
over a year ago.

what's strange is that i haven't been over there in months and there
are other posts before the one i got the email for.

Harry:

The only thing I can suggest is that you unsubscribe and then re-subscribe to the thread you aren't getting a notice from and see if that resolves the matter. And like Steve suggested check your spam filter and make sure that your messages aren't getting filtered out.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

Why is it that when I look at Blu ray reviews and only on reviews that my computer brings up the message about sending an error report and then it close my internet explorer down? It happens on my XP computer at home and on my Windows 98 computer at work

That I have never heard of here. I am not sure what is doing on. I have used IE on XP and 98 with no issues. Have you upgraded IE to 7 or 8? If not that may resolve your issue.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

probably just me, one of the banners in my sig has become larger somehow.
obviously the bottom one, previously it was the same as the top one.

also the lower banner doesn't expand and float off the page the way
other pics do.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

Tony: Did the link to that bottom image somehow get changed from VB code to html code?

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

you've got me, I don't know what the difference is from one or the other.

there's also supposed to be a spider-man logo that hasn't shown in ages for some reason.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

Look in your sig. VB code uses the [img] tags. HTML code uses tags.

Only the vb code re-sizes images and then allows them to "jump" off the screen when you click on them.

Of course, I don't know why it would change on its own...

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

For example, look in any given RoundUp (first post) and you'll see there's no magnifying glass when you roll your cursor over the first image (my "roundUp" image). For that one I use html code.

But any of the other pictures in the first post will show the magnifying glass feature because I'm using vb code.

Re: Report All Forum Software Problems Part II.

the top banner has [img]
the second one has %3Cbr in front of it.

I'll have to find the image at photobucket and put it back up as new.
