From that list of 50 I recommend the Bird and the Bee if you dig retro pop.

I am SO tempted to get that one! I have "Ray Guns Are Just Not The Future" and several on their singles, all of which I love. If you haven't heard their version of "Carol of the Bells" (the Christmas classic) I HIGHLY recommend you track it down!

Re: Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day/$5 Fridays

I stumbled upon Carol of the Bells because my Dad got a Starbucks sampler from my cousin, which had it on there. I was so excited...more so than my 80-year old dad, of course.

While heading to the $5 page to see if I want to purchase that album by Bird and the Bee, I stumbled upon something new: The Daily Free MP3! I got exposed to some INCREDIBLE music on eMusic through their free selections, so here's hoping for the same thing here!

Amazon.com: Still Have My Heart: MP3 Downloads: Caitlin Crosby

Now, off to listen to the BatB soundclips....

Re: Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day/$5 Fridays

Well, I did it, Eric. My first amazon mp3 download based upon info from your thread! I bit on the $1.99 Pet Sounds download.

I have always been a mere casual Beach Boys fan. The only music of theirs I have ever owned--outside of their Christmas stuff--is the compilation CD called Endless Summer.

I have always heard SO MUCH about Pet Sounds and it's influence on the concept album genre that I decided I should give it a complete listen. I only know a couple of the songs.

A strange thing happened on my journey. I downloaded the Amazon mp3 downloader and did their FREE mp3 download test. Everything went smoothly. But when I downloaded the 13 tracks of Pet Sounds, the first track didn't appear in my iTunes. I found it where it was downloaded to...but I had to jump through hoops to copy the mp3 into my iTunes. Is this a common experience for people. I was scared at first that the track hadn't downloaded when only 12 of the 13 tracks appeared in my iTunes. Gives me pause about DLing more...except that it really was, in fact, on my HD and I was able to reassemble the group.

Never experienced a problem like that, Mike. The whole "instant gratification" aspect of music downloading is gonna get me into trouble someday!

Where did it download it to? You might check iTunes preferences to see what is designated as the iTunes Music Folder. Though that doesn't necessarily explain why it didn't show up in iTunes.

Re: Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day/$5 Fridays

Okay. Try #2. I can see that I'm going to have to be careful about this becoming addictive.

I downloaded a Barenaked Ladies concert CD today. As promised, the entire CD was downloaded into a folder set up in my My Music folder called Amazon Mp3s. So everything was fine. And, as each track downloaded I got notified that they were downloading, that they had finished downloading, and that they had been added to my iTunes library.

But, when I went to iTunes to check up on things all the songs were in my Recently Added playlist...EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST ONE! Weird. I was able to add the lone stubborn track by adding the file to my iTunes playlist through the iTunes menu.

It's just weird that the first downloaded track in both instances didn't want to get transferred.

I've never been a fan, but Brian Wilson often gets referenced by musicians I like and more than a few have done covers of songs from Pet Sounds. I definitely enjoy concept albums and especially ones that can get a little dark. I love that there's this ominous quality to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" - idealism and hope on the verge of being destroyed.

Re: Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day/$5 Fridays

Cameron...let's bring this discussion full circle. Have you ever heard the Barenaked Ladies song "Brian Wilson?" It sounds like something that would be right up your alley and speak to some of that darkness that surrounded Wilson.

Re: Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day/$5 Fridays

Yeah, I think the BNL song might be one of the first references I'd heard.

Agreed, I just wish I could find the original '83 version of the song rather than the crappy trance remixes he did... Anyone find it on Amazon or iTunes?

I didn't realize that the original is so hard to find! I ripped mine off the CD "Living In Oblivion Vol. 5" (an 80's compilation series). I also have Razormaid's DJ remix that mixes the original 12" English and German versions together!

Saturday's deal: Amazon.com: Greatest Hits Singles: MP3 Downloads: Isaac Hayes for $1.99

And the free track: Amazon.com: Saddle Up: MP3 Downloads: The Boy Least Likely To

Yeah I may have to steal it off a friends CD. I'd buy it if I could!

Shaft? Shut Yo Mouth! That's Shaft!

I LOVE that free song. If you guys don't go get it immediately you are crazy =)
