Hmmm... Upon a quick reread of the entire thread, I'm guessing Ed is returning this one because of a mix of reasons, including probably most importantly the discussion about (relatively) subpar PQ for this one despite Cameron's high rating (of 4.5).

If the utmost PQ is required (vs just better than the DVD) regardless of whether it's the fault of the source material, then Ed's comments do make sense though he did add to the confusion by responding w/ "tongue firmly in cheek" w/out providing plenty of indicators (like emoticons) to help prevent confusion. But maybe those of us regulars should know better by now.

Anyone who takes the question of returning a title only because of window-boxing or an answer too the question of returning a title only because of window-boxing title sequence needs too get a life beyond this thread!
(not too say no one will not buy this because of the title windowboxing, just like some will not buy these cause of the covers, just why would you even wish too dwell into the mind of someone who would not buy a release for either of those reasons; its got too be a awful bewildering universe they have created for themselves)

I'd luv too. I think it adds too the fun of posting & agree wholeheartedly it helps take the sting/awkwardness off of black on white ramblings.

All the more reason to be clear in your own posts to avoid confusion (especially if posted hours after the preceding one). The logical inference from your comment, following the post immediately above it, was the one I drew. Beyond that, judging from other responses, your "tongue in cheek" response was not all that evident either (and who is not "allowing you" to use emoticons?).

As for taking you seriously over the window boxing of the title sequence--there have been MANY examples of people making claims of just that nature in recent weeks, so it was not so obvious you were kidding. Eh bien, c'est la vie.

Deducing that a poster who declares his intention to return a disc immediately following a post about a particular issue with the disc (the framing of the title sequence, in the case) is doing so because of said issue is not a "leap," huge or otherwise. It's the way message board posts are typically constructed and interpreted.

So I would indeed advise you to follow Paul's suggestion in the future, because if you meant anything in your original post besides "I'm returning the disc because of the framing of the title sequence," then your post was wholly misleading.

Oh, and ive neve seen Thunderball look better. Cant wait for the next wave of Bond films. I watched them to fast!

Slight correction for Cameron: It was atomic bombs that were stolen, not missiles (the difference is significant because of the delivery method).

Nice review of Thunderball on blu ray!
I'm looking forward to picking this one up. It's my favorite of the Connerys. Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger and From Russia With Love are also favorites.

Interesting notes on the quality of the film compared with Dr. No and From Russia With Love. I'm sure it looks brilliant though compared with the UE DVD version.

Quick question: on the end credits of this Blu Ray, does the film play the James Bond theme, as did the old DVDs, or does it play the instrumental medley of the Bond and Thunderball theme, which is how the soundtrack album does, as does the old UK TV prints.

It's just like the old DVDs (which I find to be very disappointing - the soundtrack score ending is much better). It also doesn't say "James Bond will return in On Her Majesty's Secret Service", which, according to some reports, is what was originally shown in the 1965. [Side note for anyone interested: Majesty's was originally planned to be the 5th Bond film, but problems of one sort or another arose and forced a change.]

Wasn't there 2 versions of the music during the credits? One for the UK market and one for the US market? 

The bigger question is when does the follow up to Thunderball, You Only Live Twice (and the other 9 unreleased Bond films on blu ray) come to blu ray? 

I don't know, but that would explain it. Too bad they picked the wrong one for DVD/BD.

I found the following trivia notes on IMDB.

Closing credits on British prints use the James Bond Theme. International prints use an instrumental version of Thunderball.
Current prints on VHS videocassette in the United States use the James Bond Theme. Earlier prints on VHS use an instrumental version of Thunderball.

Even after the film had been issued on DVD, I recall picking up an older VHS copy to hear the differences that are listed here:

According to the Special Edition DVD version of "Thuderball", there are a few versions of the film out there. In different versions, Bond says a different line when he escapes from Largo's shark pool. Some versions also feature a comment that Felix makes when he and Bond see a manta-ray from the helicopter. It's not in the DVD. There are also alternate takes of a scene with Largo on his boat in different versions. Many of the versions released on VHS did not feature the original score for the underwater battle at the climax. [In fact ALL the above differences - plus the use of the instrumental Thunderball theme during the closing credits - appear in the 1992 MGM/UA UK VHS release. This suggests that rather than several different versions, there are 2 alternative cuts].
