I am so pleased to have found this forum, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding the components of my new home theater (I live in a 4th floor apartment and I use a small to mid sized room to see movies and play video games, I do not hear a lot of music there). I have a 52" aquos and a PS3.
First, I am planning on buying the Onkyo 806 (amazon has it at a great price and almost all of the reviews seem to agree that it is a great buy (any comments on the contrary or recomendations on other receivers would be greatly apreciated)).
Then, here is were it starts to get complicated, I am planning on buying a new set of speakers and (if my budget permits) a set of 2 tactile motion actuators from crowson technology (they are suposed to be the best, please advise me if they are a good buy or not, or if I should try another brand that is cheaper). The budget I have for the speakers is of aproximately $1,000, but I would like to keep it as low as possible in order to buy the tactile motion actuators (coupons, promotions or any other help is welcomed).
This is were it gets messy, I really want to determine if I have to get a speaker system that is worth $1,000 or more (I think in many cases mostly because of the subwoofer) or should I try to get a cheaper speaker set of around $600 or $700 (I was thinking of a cambridge soundworks newton ensemble MC305 (it has a nice discount) or any other you could recommend (polk, onkyo, etc...) and combine it with the tactile motion actuator to enhance the hearing experience. I know these is not one of the easiest questions, but that is why I ask it here.
In case everybody agrees that the quality of the speakers should never be compromised (even if the tactile motion actuator will be included), I think I have narrowed the best speaker packages for that budget to the following (if you think there are other that give more bang for the money or that i should mix and match to get a better value, your advise will be greatly apreciated):
a) sbs-01 5.1 surround sound system ($999). Every review i have seen praises them as a great option.
b) Anthony gallo - I will check the prices on saturday, but I think some of the packages are in my price range -. This also has a bonus, since my room is really not so big, their size could be considered as a plus.
c) Orb audio people's choice home theather speaker system ($1,098). Also, another highly reviewed speaker and small in size. However, the cost might be an issue.
Those are my first choices, but I am open to any comments on this or any other brands, and in case you determine a combination of different speakers would be better, I would like to hear it.
Finally, sorry to have made such a long post, in case I buy the tactile motion actuators, I do not want to buy the amp they sell, because it would increase my costgreatly, do you think I can use an old kenwood av receiver I have to power them, or should I buy the amp they sell (or maybe another cheaper).
Thank you very much for your help, I am planning on buying in the next few weeks (if someone knows of any promotion that will take place in thanksgiving or before christmas, it will be greatly apreciated).
