AVENGERS Movie Thread - Page 5

Pretty good trailer, but I hated the use of the rock song. Always seems like pandering when a trailer is made to look like a music video. Also, the movie's got to be more than shit blowing up.

I'm not a big Whedon fan, so this may be off, but I think his reputation suggests it will be more than just shit blowing up. That's just a teaser trailer thing (and the laser stuff did look pretty cool).

Like someone said earlier. I think the lack of Hulk scenes has more to do with the CG not being done rather than his character being an after thought.

I've been pretty vocal about hating Downey as Stark.

Then again, I've never understood all the Tobey/Parker hate either..

Not to be a dick, but I almost think you have to be jaded if that trailer didn't do anything for you. I mean, seriously, what more could you possibly want or expect from a teaser trailer?

My initial response to the trailer is summed up with "It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Not saying Whedon is an idiot, just saying the trailer filled with explosions just didn't quite impress me...

I've seen some exceptional teaser trailers, especially for films as anticipated as The Avengers. This trailer was not exceptional in the least. While it was fun seeing the characters in a single action beat and with one single character interaction, it was hardly as well put together as the teaser for, say, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or The Muppets. It felt generic when it should have felt special.
I agree the trailer wasn't anything special, it basically just set out to tell all the people (who didn't already know) "hey look, here's a movie with all these other dudes together, oooo!"

It should have set up a basic understanding of the threat in the film, and how it's so large we have almost no hope of surviving it. Cut to The Avengers.

Of course, that may not be in the movie at all. In which case they probably shouldn't have bothered making it...

Every trailer for "The Muppets" has been fantastic.   I mean just dead on fantastic in the way that surprised me how dead on they are.  Which surprises me that you also mention Girl with a Dragon Tattoo.. which I am VERY much looking forward to; I love the prior film, and I will miss the lead actress; but I think it could be done better and frankly, in English will help ;)  but the Muppet trailer that parodied it was fantastic.

Alan Silvestri to Score Marvel's The Avengers

Personally, I think it's great news. His "Captain America" score is probably my favorite of the last couple years. It was big, bold and iconic.

Finally 100 percent sold:

Eh, still not sold, but here's the minute-long trailer (more Hulk snippets)

They should of left out Scarlet and the guy with the bow, forget his name. They look totally useless in the trailer and only add to the "too many characters" syndrome.

Agreed, but not as much of a problem as the redone Captain America suit. Looks like he's dressed for a Halloween party and nearly as campy as the terrible suit from the 80's movie. Shame since the suit totally worked in his own movie.

I think Joss is just trying to stay true to the comic book series. On average the # of Avengers in the comics was about 9. 6 might work for the movie.

I thought he was talking about the Bat Nipples and Ass, but that wasn't Burton was it?

It's a shitty, rubbery suit like in the Burton films. forget the nipples. Batman couldn't turn his head in that suit. Cap isn't as bad as that, but it still looks like a shit rubber Halloween costume.

The Super Bowl spot mostly works for me, but that shot with the camera circling the Avengers as they prepare for battle only emphasizes one of the big obstacles this movie has to overcome -- actually making Hawkeye and Black Widow relevant.

I mean, seriously...you've got Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America there, and Scarlett Johansson is...ejecting a clip from her pistol and reloading? That thing better shoot nuclear bullets or something.

(Also, being that Black Widow's primary takedown move is the old, "crotch-to-the-face/thighs-around-the-neck" body-toss, all that's left to be said is, "Yes, I *WOULD* like to receive a free pamphlet describing how I could learn more about joining this HYDRA organization you speak of.")

It doesn't like like rubber to me, it looks like a sort of kevlar mesh fabric. My problems with it are the very visible zipper along the red and white ab stripes and the fold-over jacket look to it. It's a step down from the 1940s suit which worked very well.

I have little doubt this is gonna be entertaining. Whedon knows his comics, and he knows how to work with pulpy, ensemble-type material. But man, something is really off with either the aspect ratio or camera placement (the film is allegedly shot in "flat" 1.85:1, compared to all of the other Marvel films to date).

This was apparent even in the first trailer (a couple Nick Fury shots), and shows up big-time in that group-pan-shot in the new trailer. Whedon himself has (jokingly) stated that he's been making every mistake in the book with regard to his direction. Unfortunately, it appears that a few of those mistakes may have made it into the final print.

Latest trailer looks good. I like the action with the Hulk; let's hope they get him right. Nothing against Eric Bana or Edward Norton (who I thought was really good), but Mark Ruffalo deserves a chance at a Hulk movie. He could really bring back that weary feeling from the Bill Bixby show.

Excellent trailer. It was the first one that made it feel like an epic motion picture instead of a TV movie with bigger name actors. I really like the way the camera tracks the action through three-dimension space as all of the shit goes down across Manhattan.
