Earth vs Flying Saucers & War of the Worlds

Just finished watching "Earth vs the Flying Saucer" on BD and noticed they inserted a scene from the original "War of the Worlds!"

On the BD at 1:17:35 when one of the saucers blows up a tall building, they used the scene from "WOTW" (1:15:48) when they blow up LA City Hall.

In all the numerous times that I've watched "EVTFS," not once did I notice that. By the way, I was watching the colorized version and said to myself how crappy a job they did for that scene and that is when I noticed City Hall.

By the way, the BD uses the same source print as the SD, only they removed most of the vertical white lines. I compared a few scenes and some black spots are located in the same area.

Other than that, it was a great experience in HD and the TruHD sound is awesome, especially the bass...rumbled my couch!!!

P.S. Just finished watching "remembering "EVTFS" with Harryhausen on the BD and he talks about stock footage and the use of it in the flim and of course mentions City Hall....I just have never noticed it before.

When V became a weekly series, the Visitors attacked Los Angeles in an early episode. The FX guys simply matted those cool little white fighter ships over footage from WOTW. And they used the famous City Hall shot.

I was amazed they thought nobody would notice!
