I was surprised how Vancouver blew out the Blackhawks in their first game. It will be interesting to see if they can keep up the momentum, considering how spotty they normally are.

It's an odd brand of defense, allowing that many shots, but it definitely wore the Pens down.  Malkin needs to wake up, he has not been a big factor in this playoffs.  The Blackhawks better wake up too!

*Groan*  I knew it was a long-shot to win 2 games in a row in Chicago, but I had some high hopes when the Canucks went up 2-0 so fast!  Oh well...now Chicago gets to play on our ice.  We have a best national anthem singing in the NHL and it will kick-off another 2 straight wins!

Starting tomorrow is the Hockey World Championships. As mentioned in the Winter Olympics,I believe there is very little info (such as TV) about it. I assume they will know about it in Canada. There is a web-site:

http://www.iihf.com/channels10/iihf-world-championship-wc10/home-iihf.html

Like the Olympics, this is a country-team tournament unlike the Stanley Cup. Many of the NHL players no longer in the Stanley Cup plus players of current teams that are eliminated may play in the tournament.

The "strong" countries are the USA, Russian, Sweden, Czech Rep, Canada, Finnland and perhaps Slovakia

When Vancouver won their first game, they actually sounded like a hockey team. However, after blowing that second game, the world has returned to normal. The Canucks have returned to form by always taking a rest when they gain a lead and then expecting their goalie to be their only defense while they plan their golf schedule. Whew!! Canucks, you have restored my belief that the Universe is rational with your return to form. I was really starting to worry that somehow the order of the Universe had become unhinged. I was almost expecting world peace to break out next.

The Habs looked strong in the first period last night, but were outplayed in the final two periods, and can once again thank Halak for keeping them in the game. Montreal lacks the offensive firepower to keep up with the Pens, IMO.

On the bright side, their young defenseman Subban, just called up from the minors in the Washington series, looks like a keeper. He does not look like a 20-year old kid playing in the NHL for the first time. He is poised, handles the puck well, can skate well, has a wicked shot, and makes solid decisions on the ice. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a Norris Trophy finalist in a couple of years.

The Sharks are playing surprisingly well against the Wings. I thought they would drop game three when they were down 2 in the third but they showed a some fortitude in coming back to beat a seasoned playoff foe.

Hopefully they will continue to play well and close out the series and get some rest.
Yeah, it's beginning to look like the Sharks will be playing the Canucks, although I hope not.  The Red Wings are on the brink....
Yes, I think you can stick a fork in the Wings --- although, if any team could blow a 3-0 lead, it would be the Sharks.

What does everyone make of the Savard bites Dog . . . errr . . .  Carcillo controversy?  My favorite line was after Savard said Carcillo was trying to pull his teeth out - "I guess he was trying to make me look like him."

I'll take the Pens win, but I'm a tad uneasy about our "powerhouse" offense only scoring 2 goals in 2 games.  I'm hoping the Habs start rolling the dice a little more and that can open up some opportunities for the Pens.

I'm quite surprised (but thrilled) that the Bruins won game three.  I never expected them to be up 3-0 in this series.  Their penalty-killing has been superb in the playoffs, and wasn't too shabby during the regular season either.
Yes, Philly's performance in this series has surprised me, too. I know they have some injuries, but the Flyers have a lot of talent up front.  I thought this would be a hard fought seven game series, not a potential sweep.

I don't know, I think it's all about the injuries.  Not to take anything away from the Bruins, but the Flyers are a better team than what they've shown.
I can't believe the Flyers fell flat, just like that. I thought they would explode on home ice, after playing 2 close games in Boston.
I'm also pleased that the Blackhawks won game three, and in Vancouver no less.  This could turn into a long series.

The Red Wings look to be finished, but if they win tonight, who knows?

Montreal played a very solid third period last night, coming from behind to beat the Pens. Who would have thought this would be the closest 2nd round series? On paper, it looked like the biggest mismatch.

The way the Habs struggle to score goals, it is hard to imagine them winning twice more in this series. Considering they were expected to lose in the first round, though, I am enjoying all this extra "bonus" playoff hockey.

Go Habs!

I'm a Pens fan but I was impressed with Montreal's fans, they had a huge energy level that surely boosted the team, and that is what the playoffs is all about!  I'm just glad the Pens are coming back home for the next game.

Looks like the Canuckleheads can start polishing up their 1 woods.  Maybe they should have paid Luongo more money. 64 million dollars over 12 years doesn't seem to be enough incentive. So much for the theory that the Blackhawks elimination of them in 2009 was a lucky fluke. Vancouver fans will be too old and decrepit to raise their white towels in victory by the time the Canucks ever win a Stanley Cup. What is this? Year number 40 without a cup?

1 wood?

To be technically correct I should have said driver, but I have a bad habit of referring to that club as a "1 wood". Anyhow, The Canuckles can start warming them up if last nights performance is any indicator. They couldn't even manage a split in front of the hometown crowd. They were so disorganized it was pathetic. And seven goals in a playoff game? The commentators kept going on about Luongo being off his game. All I could think was, "Off his game? He had no game."  Right when they need him the most Luongo turns into the 64 million dollar sieve; Although, all the blame can't be leveled at him. Vancouver virtually has no defense. When their offense takes a vacation, they end up in trouble.

Luongo has always been very keen about throwing his teammates under the bus and not accepting any blame himself. Hopefully he can offer some more bulletin board material for the Hawks like he did after game three and, just like last year, he'll be spotted sobbing in the dressing room after tomorrow night's game.

Sometimes, it may be justified and other times not. I would say yesterday was one of the times where it would be justified to some extent. The display of stupidity that the Canuckleheads put on was awe inspiring: taking stupid penalties and creating  two man short power plays, especially when they could see that the Blackhawks PP was killing them. Although, I guess equal blame could be portioned between the Canucks bad defensive play and Luongo's soft goaltending. I mean 18 seconds into the game and he lets one in. As it turned out, that wasn't exactly a good omen.

I don't know what it is about Vancouver but they seem to be able to get good goaltenders and then turn them into wrecks by the time they leave the franchise. Maybe it's the BC Bud.

Glad to see the Sharks rebound after that game four defeat to take the series. Here's hoping every other series goes 7 with plenty of overtimes.

Hopefully the Canadiens can discover some offense tonight and keep this series going. Scoring one goal combined in their last two losses just won't get it done, even with Halak's outstanding play in net.

Hal Gill is questionable for the game with a cut knee. The good news is if he plays, the injury could not possibly make "the human pylon" any slower.

Well, Montreal's Cinderella run isn't over yet as they were able to force a game 7.  Should be a great game.

The Canadiens hung in there after falling behind 2-1. I had a bad feeling after Halak let in that 2nd goal -- a weak one.  He survived three goal post shots afterwards, though, and Montreal's offense finally came to life. No matter what happens in Game 7, this playoff season has been a success.

Go Habs!

FORE!! is today's word in the Canuck dressing room. The Canucks really must hate their fans. They decided that the fans deserved the gift of watching them lose for the third time on home ice. I thought they actually had a chance to pull it off after the way they played in that last Chicago game. I should have known better. When it come to the Canucks, never underestimate their ability to stumble over their own skates and fall flat on their faces.

Oh well. Better luck next year Canuckles.<--------- I'm pretty sure 40 years from now these words will still be being said when referring to the Canuck's Stanley Cup hopes........barring nuclear war or a Global environmental disaster that is.

Obviously glad Chicago didn't let it go to a game seven, but my hat's off to Sami Salo. That guy showed a ton of grit going out there last night.

I'm pulling for a Blackhawks - Bruins final.  Heck, the Blackhawks have gone even longer than Boston in winning their last Cup.

Go Bruins!
