Set in 1948 during China's civil war the Ninth Company of the People's Liberation army are sent out to defend a mine from the advancing Kuomintang troops. Of the 48 members of the Ninth Company only Gu, one of their leaders, survives only to find he has become a forgotten man.
Video: Anamorphic widescreen the picture quality is excellent with a washed out look similar to Saving Private Ryan. The battle scenes are very graphic and realistic.
Audio: Mandarin with English subtitles in Dolby Digital 5.1. The rear speakers were very active and the subwoffer added punch to the many battle scenes.
