Read what I said again, Jeff. I never stated that
Life on Mars is a better show than
Lost is. I simply stated that
for me, as great as
Lost was last Wednesday,
Life on Mars provided the biggest surprise of the evening and the most enjoyment that night. The way that this much too short series (
Life) is winding down appears to be very well done and I expect that a lot will be packed into the final two episodes if last week's show is any indication. From the start
Life on Mars has been blessed with a great cast and some very clever plot lines. I fully expect the upcoming Complete Series DVD set of 17 episodes to be well worth one's time if they missed it during the first go round. I hope that someday we will be able to get not only the American version on DVD but the British version (both seasons) in Region One format. A deluxe package of both versions would be outstanding, but probably out of the question due to logistics involved in such a project.
Ironically, I didn't get into
Lost until season 2 but thanks to the recommendation of a friend I purchased the Season One DVD set and came up to speed before Season Two premiered. And I've been hooked ever since - even during the series' ups and downs. While there will be no Season Two or beyond for
Life, it will still be available to those who missed it on its initial presentation. Without a doubt Lost is the more complex and more complicated series (although both share some time travel elements with a touch of mysticism) and is the more "memorable" series. A series that spans six seasons (actually more with all the garbage that ABC pulled in its scheduling) is bound to leave a bigger footprint. I would totally agree that
Lost is one of my all-time favorites but I also have been enjoying
Life on Mars during its too-brief run. And last Wednesday in a back to back viewing,
Life intrigued me more than
Lost. That's not to mean that over the long (and sometimes plodding) haul,
Lost isn't the better series.
Speaking of ABC, doesn't anyone else feel a bit insulted that the network that has killed
Life on Mars,
Eli Stone and
Pushing Daisies has also tried to force on us the absolutely abysmal
Better Off Ted which gets my vote as the Turkey of the Year. What a derivative, unfunny piece of garbage. The cast of that show deserves much better than that. For the first time in memory I cancelled a Season Pass on my DVR before finishing watching the pilot episode. The only reason I stayed to the end was in the hope that there would be some sort of reveal explaining the pollution on my screen. Thanks for nothing, ABC.
