Interesting.

I know Something is up with the Macbook line as
the prices have DRAMATICALLY dropped on the Macbook Pro.
I just saw MacZone advertising a 17" 2.4 GHz with 2gb ram
for $1849.

Hope the new Pro models have Blu-ray drives.

Unless there are drives out there by now that meet the slim characteristics needed to fit into a MacBook Pro, don't count on it. Plus, the needed software for the protected signal path isn't in the OS yet, AFAIK. And they would have to use HDMI ports as well, which they haven't so far. Or maybe they go straight to DisplayPort (the successor to DVI and HDMI in the monitor world) .

OEM slim blu Drives have been in the manufacturing pipeline for 6+ months.

I don't think they would steal the bricks thunder by including BluRay at the same time as its launch tho...

Really? I haven't seen any that meet the requirements for a current MacBook (Pro) yet. Remember, they must be slot loading, too. But granted, I haven't been looking recently, so if you have a link I'd be interested to know which manufacturer makes them.

This is definitely interesting, and it certainly qualifies as the major 4th quarter change Apple alluded to in the last earnings call (especially if they do open a US plant). However, the way I read the rumor is that the "Brick" isn't any particular product, but refers to the new manufacturing process itself.

As Ron said, something's up for sure. Looks like we'll find out next Tuesday.

Fastmac has a slimline drive but it's currently $999

Apple's cutting the invites REALLY close if it is next tuesday... We should have seen the tech rags waving their invites on the front pages by now. Oh, and if they DO announce BD drives in new models you can all thank me for buying a new (to me) iMac last week and having no budget to get a new retail box =p

I forget where I read it but I recall seeing HDCP support 'stubs' being reported found in a dev build and then removed. I've been hoping that all of this time Apple has been bucking the move to HDMI just so they wouldn't have to support the buggy HDCP/HDMI world. Is Display port any more consumer friendly? I don't think this is a bell that can't be unwrung, but the studios just have too much pull still no matter how wrong they are about forcing this crap down people's throats.

Good point. I seem to remember the invites for the iPod event went out about a week in advance. I would expect to hear something by tomorrow.

It's also too soon past "Let's Rock". I suspect if anything October is going to have a refresh paired with a press release saying why these are different rather than even a mini-Stevenote.
