How many minutes of the colorized version may I watch before being banished from the HTF?

"minutes"...? Seriously? I don't think it can be quantified with such a lengthy unit of measure. Maybe in parts of a second but not minutes.

It's a good thing I asked.

Re: Ray Harryhausen Collection

My rule of thumb is that you can play it long enough to say, "Look what they've done, these monsters! My God!" And then you need to go back to the black and white.

I suppose optionally you can add, "They've raped my childhood." But NO MORE.

Re: Ray Harryhausen Collection

Ok, I've watched Earth vs. Flying Saucers and It Came from Beneath the Sea from the set. After watching both on my 46" Samsung, I don't think EvFS benefited much from HD. ICfBtS, however, did seem more detailed, more interesting.

I made an astounding discovery. After starting ICfBtS, last night and powering off the player mid-movie (got sleepy), I started it up today and it resumed where I left off and with the commentary still on. I then hit the stop button and then play and it did the same thing. This is the first BD disc I've discovered that does that.

Is this because there's fewer bells and whistles on the disc or because they got the act together?

I also discovered that the Angle button toggles between the b&w version and the (gasp) colorized version. The picture pauses for a short moment and than resumes in the selected mode.

Edit: When I first watched these movies 50 years ago, I didn't get sleepy in the middle of them. Was that because I was watching them in a Saturday matinée with a couple hundred noisy kids (myself included) or is that because of those additional (sigh) 50 years?

Re: Ray Harryhausen Collection

Johnny, i had asked that question a few months ago. It seems if a disc has JAVA that needs to load, the disc cant, or wont resume.
You know when a disc is full of JAVA, it takes a few seconds to minutes to load it all.

Probably a combination of both, and I've noticed that phenomenon too!

Re: Ray Harryhausen Collection

I have a Samsung BD-P1500 player and have been watching It Came From Beneath the Sea (as a rental) but the Angle button display, which is used to toggle between the B & W and colorized version stays on the screen all the time throughout the film. I assume it is not meant to do this?

It's a flaw in the way Samsung codes their software. Search around for a 1500 thread. Maybe somebody found a workaround.

Re: Ray Harryhausen Collection

Thanks, Doug. I have indeed found the answer on an AV Forum. On the remote I have to press the Popup button, then Info button, then Popup button again and the Angle icon disappears from the screen.
