Seems as though my original post has disappeared. Curious. That, or I stupidly never posted it.
Anyway, I saw this originally in an IMAX theater and the AR changes didn't bother me at all. I noticed them, but they weren't distracting. On a smaller screen, though, I agree that that could prove troublesome. It really should be an option.

I can not wait to buy this movie on Blu-ray but I guess I will have to wait and see how I feel about the aspect ratio changing after I have viewed it a few times. And then again in the future after I get my 100" screen and 1080p projector? If the clip on the Blu-ray of Batman Begins is any indication then the transfer is going to be reference on The Dark Knight.

Keep in mind that IMAX has way more resolution than standard film. So the whole film won't have the resolution that the IMAX portion does. This was very obvious on the IMAX screen, as the IMAX parts literally jumped out at you with their sharpness and resolution in comparison to the regularly filmed part of the movie.

Of course, playing itself out on a smaller screen at home will help to reduce the differences. But I can definitely tell a difference on my 60" SXRD between the Dark Knight prologue and the Batman Begins BD transfer.

Watching the IMAX version was like (WARNING - loose, very poor comparison NOT to be taken literally) watching a Blu-ray disc cut together with an upconverted DVD. The IMAX scenes were so lifelike in comparison.

The Batman Begins BD looked very soft compared to the Prologue. Not bad by any means, but certainly a difference.

Thanks. I spent a lot of time over at AVS in the plasma section and after almost pulling the trigger back in February on a 150FD I decided to wait for the newest gen. which would supposedly have better blacks along with other improvements. So far, all I can say is that I'm completely blown away by this set. It's replacing a Panasonic 50" 7UY which at the time I bought it was the plasma with the best black levels on the market. The KURO blacks are so much deeper it almost makes my Panny look like an LCD.
