A nice return to form. Beau Bridges is awesome.

re: My Name is Earl season 4

Every Beau Bridges episode elevates the show to a different level, they go for much more of a dramedy feel than the usual list items. Liked the second episode more than the Seth Green episode, but I generally quite liked both episodes.

Two episodes is too early to say anything extreme, but wow, it looks like this show might finally be back on track.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

Did they actually show the episode 'Darnell Outed, Pert 1" last thursday? In my area, they listed a rerun at 7pm and the new episode at 8pm. (I am in MST and prime time starts at 7pm) I set the DVR to record the second one (the new one) but when I sat down to watch it, it wa a rerun.

That 15 minute speech (they showed at 7 pm here) really screwed up my DVRing that night. I padded the shows by 20 minutes but my DVR didnt even start to record CSI. Luckily I noticed after about 4 minutes and manually re-added it.

Once I noted that the schedule for the night would be altered for the Presidential Address, I simply told my DVR to record the entire three hour block. "Darnell Outed, Part 1" *did* air; and as far as I could tell it came on at approximately 7:30 in my area. ("Earl" normally airs at 7:00 PM here.) The rerun ep was apparently used just to pad out the first half-hour block. It was joined in progress following the Farewell Address and the short analysis that followed.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

Thats what I figured. I guess the local station here screwed up again and showed the wrong episode.

Luckily the episode was available on the nbc website.

Thanks for the response.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

This season is definitely better than last season. I hope they can get Giovanni Ribisi back for an episode this season. If I remember correctly, he's been in at least one episode each season.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

I am sad to hear this is canceled. The story needs a final season to close out the story. It will be shopped around to other networks, so hopefully we'll get another season, with a better budget.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

Very disappointed. This has been the best season since the first season, and the finale opened up so many questions that we need at least 6 or 7 episodes to wrap everything up. Disappointing move on NBC's part.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

I'm disappointed that "Earl" was cancelled, but I think I put more blame on the creators/producers of the show for writing a cliffhanger when at no point over the last season would have I considered the show "safe" at NBC.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

If this were produced by Universal Media instead of Fox, there's no way it would have been cancelled. It consistently beat "Parks & Recreation" and often beat "30 Rock" as well. Hopefully Fox will pick it up as a midseason replacement.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

There is some "buzz" that Fox will be picking up My Name Is Earl as a mid-season replacement in January 2010. There is still hope for a 5th Season.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

This show is definitely more of a FOX show than an NBC show. Here's hoping that FOX grabs it.

How's this for a quote - from 'My Name Is Earl' creator is OK with being 'thrown off the Titanic' | Show Tracker | Los Angeles Times

Quote:
"My Name Is Earl" creator Greg Garcia ... is a writer because he has a way with words.

Asked for his take on NBC's unceremonious cancellation of his single-camera comedy today, Garcia didn't miss a beat: "It’s hard to be too upset about being thrown off the Titanic."

And a late night article about a possible new home for Earl:

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

Sadly it seems there will be no season 5. This just in: 'My Name is Earl' will NOT live on | My Name is Earl, News | Ausiello Files | EW.com

I'll admit the show had its ups and downs, but I think I'll miss it nonetheless.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

Hopefully they realize the marketing potential of creating a "Final" 2 hour episode that can go straight to DVD!!! ... and especially if they make an uncensored version too!!!

I will miss it as well. It had a lot of interesting characters and some great moments. I hope Greg Garcia writes somewhere how he would have continued things.

Re: My Name is Earl season 4

So NBC is in last place, and they cancel a show with decent ratings?
And now their whole lineup will be what? Talk Shows and Reality TV?
Oh well, The first four seasons were great, and they will always be on DVD.

But 20th Century Fox Television produced it. NBC has pretty much declared that it's not in the business of airing shows produced by anyone but Universal Media Studios any more. For the last several years, we've all been watching the slow motion car wreck that is the National Broadcasting Company.
