I don't buy it.

I think that Ted running into Stella will eventually lead him to the real mother but i'm not buying that it's Stella herself.
I agree. I guess I'm saying I think the yellow umbrella was a red herring.

I liked Robin saying she was pregnant.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

stella has a child right? so why wouldnt she be seen in the future spots? those 2 kids are too close in age to be her daughter from previous.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

Yeah, I agree that she will lead to the Mother. After the initial shock wore off I thought it through.

Agree about Stella somehow leading Ted to the mother, disagree about the umbrella being a red herring, strictly speaking. A red herring a is false clue. I think the umbrella is quite real and will be involved in Ted's meeting with the mother. I just think that Stella's going to end up with it. (They'll go to a restaurant or something and one of them will grab the wrong umbrella when they leave.) From there the yellow umbrella will make its way to the woman Ted eventually marries.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

the music playing when Ted was going outside for the bagel reminded me of "sparkplug minuet" from the Royal Tenenbaums

OKay, good episode until the clown came in. Darn it I hate random clowns ruining episodes for me.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I'm still waiting for the episode where Ted's voice suddenly changes into that of Bob Saget.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

Meh. Lame "closure" episode.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I thought it was very good, at the very least it confirmed that Stella isn't the mother.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I also thought it was a good episode. There's a sweeter side to this show that sets it apart from the other comedies on TV, and I don't mind when the show highlights that trait.

I meant that I thought the yellow umbrella was a red herring that he was about to meet the mother in this episode. Whenever we see the yellow umbrella, we ask, "Is Ted going to finally meet the mother?" I just meant it wasn't going to be this episode. Eventually, it will, yellow umbrella and all -- probably in the series finale.

I think we all knew this going into the episode. I don't think we are going to see who the mother is until the very last show of the series.

Ted's 31st birthday! The goat! Barney and Robin! The Slutty Pumpkin (tm)! Professor Mosby?

I loved it!

Regards,

Joe

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I loved it, too, very good season finale.

Ted fighting with the goat was hilarious! I also like what the ordely said "Remember, baaaa means baaaa." lol.

Perfect ending with everyone taking the leap.

That blonde that Barney was hitting on at the party was HAWT!

Was the Slutty Pumpkin seen in the rooftop Halloween flashback? Didn't notice!

I liked the "Ghostbusters" reference.

Yup. She crosses from the left side of the screen to the right directly behind Marshall. She's wearing an orange wig and a bra consisting of two orange pieces of cloth tricked out as jack'o'lanterns. The lower part of the costume seems to be some gauzy orange material. You can't see her face at all the way the thing was shot, which I'm sure was deliberate.

I love when shows put little things like that in them - call backs to earlier episodes for one, "easter eggs" that can only be seen if you freeze-frame or watch in slo-mo for another.

I think I'd be happy if they decided to make next season the final one and wrapped up the story while the ratings are still good and the writing still fresh. Too many shows (most, I'd say) hang on for that fatal extra season or two where the writers run out of gas and start repeating themselves, the actors start relying on the same schitck and the audience tunes out until the show is ultimately cancelled. (see Night Court, X-Files, ST:TNG, etc.) This would be especially awful for a show with an over-all arc, like this one.

The momentum built up this season (especially the Robin-Barney stuff) just "feels" like it is moving the show into the home stretch, and I hope the network doesn't force them to stall a natural progression to keep hang onto a timeslot, the way ABC did with Lost. Besides, they already have enough episodes in the can for syndication, which is usually all the studio worries about, so they're approaching the point of diminishing returns. (Especially if the show costs more to make than the network pays in license fees, which is typically the case.)

What does everybody else think?

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I'd be happy with them wrapping things up. I get a bit tired of the coyness, so thinking of two years or more before we meet the mother seems rather tedious.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I want them to wrap it up next season. How many seasons of watching Ted lecture and try to chat up a coed do we need to see?

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I thought it was hinted that this would be the second last season. Am I remembering incorrectly?

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I just started watching this show this season, so I'm not tired of it yet.

I hope it holds out for 2.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

It should continue until Cobie Smulders gets another successful series or starts making successful movies.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

I'm in the camp for one more season being about right. Wrap up the idea, go out (hopefully) on top, leave us wanting more rather than complaining the thing went on too long. Heck, if they're really big on the show after one more year, there's always the "Three's A Crowd" route, just rewriting the show into a spinoff.

That would depend entirely on what the coed(s) looks like.

If they were on the level as the Barney blonde, then I suppose I could make an exception and support another season of the show.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

didn't the creators originally say they envisioned this as a 3-4 season series? funny how things change when syndication money enters the equation

from the way Ted was narrating, it sounded like the Mother was in the class when Ted started teaching. so i wonder how long it will be before Ted actually gets the job (or did he already do that and everything was off camera/skipped?)

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

looked clear that he was in the class and was already a teacher.
so i would say skipped.

A good bet, but don't forget how much the show likes to jump around in time. It wouldn't be the first time they flash-forwarded to something they cover in a later episode. Heck, they did it with the goat.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

Barney-Robin does not work for me at all. It's like Joey-Rachel from Friends, a pairing that just doesn't work.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - season 4

The Joey and Rachel pairing was downright painful to watch. Nuts and gum all the way.

Barney and Robin has always made sense to me. Like ham and eggs.
