Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

(after Raj takes a bite of pizza) "Secret Agent Laser Obstacle Lunch is just stupid."

My wife and I cracked up when Sheldon put his hand up to protect his throat after Penny answered the door.

Oh, and www.pennyblossoms.com

Did anyone notice anything odd about the boys apartment? It seemed off to me, but I could not quite figure it out.

I think you need to take a break from watching the show, Sheldon.

But, but, but......

I swear there is something off about the apartment in last nights episode!

Hanson did you make that site?

Oh heavens no -- it looks like a 12 year old girl's MySpace page.

I assume the producers mocked up the site to coincide with the episode. The folks at HIMYM do it all the time.

And Lorre & Co. did it for Two-and-a-Half Men, too. (IHateCharlieHarper.com) For awhile CSI had a mock page up for Lady Heather's web site (I think now the URL just goes to the show's homepage.) I'm sure there are lots of other examples I've forgotten. It is a heck of a marketing tool and a fun "easter egg" - because the writers know the some fan is actually going to try entering any URL mentioned on these shows.

(In my standard internet use lecture for corporate newbies I always tell them to exercise common sense and not type something like "w w w. spankme . c o m" into the browser just to see if they could get past the filters. When one company I worked for went belly-up, someone actually did type that into the browser on the last day we were open, just to see what would happen. Until that moment I didn't realize that a) the firewall and filter software had already been turned off and b) that it was a real site - although I probably should have guessed that somebody would have registered that domain name. )

Later,

Joe

The Simpsons do it a lot.

I always figured they do it to prevent someone else from registering the URL and either putting up something offensive or (in the case of a marketing idea) stealing said idea.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

Was that a PS3 that I saw Leonard setting up for Alicia?

Sheldon sure has a weird way of seeing if he'll like new people in the building.

I guess Howard was so smitten with the new tenant that he didn't bother drooling over Penny in the tight and short blue dress. Damn KC was looking good in that outfit.

I thought it was her stereo system.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

Whew, that was a smokin' hot episode, and hilarious.

When Sheldon was explaining what the two options were for a queen bee who's hive has been invaded all I heard was "he's telling you to engage her in a catfight." and when Penny thought he was talking about what she should do and Sheldon said "I was talking about bees, it's on the Discovery channel, what were YOU talking about?" I said "you should engage her in a catfight.".

Much to my, and Howard's, delight that's what happened.

If the new girl sticks around this could be fun.

Loved the part when Penny was explaining to the new girl (right before the catfight ) that the boys don't have their "shields up" like in Star Trek and she got hit with the realization that the nerdiness might just be rubbing off on her.

I thought it was moot when Leonard asked her if she preferred either Dolby 5.1 or DTS since she had no surround system that I could see. Then again I was too busy checkin' out Penny in that blue dress and the new girl's rear so...

BTW, "It's a trap!!"

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

My sound dropped out for the last few lines; it's odd--I could hear the thumping of Alicia's stereo and the audience laughing, but none of the boys' dialogue. What were the last lines?

BTW--I, too loved Penny and the Star Trek shield analogy. Those guys are really rubbing off on her! "We gonna watch Galactica?...I got my geek on!"

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

The last lines were (and I know this because I queued it up on my DVR where this ep is staying until the release on DVD lol) were...

Sheldon...
"You set it on DTS didn't you?"

Leonard...
"I had to, she called me 'cutie'."

Howard...
"According to her Facebook page she's hooking up with one of the producers of CSI."

Penny...
"Hmm, dead whore on TV, live one in real life."

(They hear a rythmic squeaking sound from upstairs)

Sheldon...
"Oh great, now she's jumping up and down on the bed."

Penny (mouthing silently to Leonard at Sheldon's naivety)...
"Oh wow."

I've had that happen on 2 episodes so far this season...and I believe someone else mentioned this happening to them a few weeks back...what's up with that??

Did anyone else wonder if the studio audience was really laughing at the reference or were they just laughing because Sheldon was saying something goofy?...kind of like the way a child will laugh at an 'adult' joke (in a cartoon) that he/she doesn't understand but still laughs because the characters are acting goofy.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

Alicia was "Piper" from Joe Schmo 2. Every time I see a Joe Schmo alum I get a bit excited. Valerie Azlynn shows up in series episodes all the time. My wife didn't recognize her because she did something weird to her nose.

As soon as I heard Sheldon refer to Admirial Ackbar, I yelled out, "it's a trap!" My wife looked at me like, "what are you talking about?" Then Sheldon yelled, "it's a trap!" Then she looked at me like, "oh, okay, it's a geek thing."

Really, this show is so up my alley.

You could take out both Green Lanterns with a number 2 pencil.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

Argh! Again with the sound dropping! Twice this has happened to us. We missed quite a bit of the last few minutes of dialogue in last nights episode.

Great episode though. I think I crush on Sheldon more and more each time.

Thanks for the recap of the last few lines Inspector Hammer. I completely missed out on that hilarious moment due to THE SOUND DROPPING AGAIN!!!!!

That last line cracks me up because it made me think of the Penny Blossom episode when Penny says, "I have a spaghetti strainer in the kitchen" and Sheldon turns to her and says, " Wow!".

I love this show!

HA!! Thank you! I thought she looked familiar.

Now where is that show on DVD? It was announced, but never made it.

Great show.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

Not a fan of the new neighbor (looks-wise). She's tall, but not very attractive in the face to me.

I guess Admiral Ackbar's line is something lots of geeks say. I used to do it myself, even leaning my head back some to try to look more like him.

For a show that seems to try to get their comic book references correct, they blew it with the Green Lantern stuff. The weakness to yellow has been removed for I want to say at least a couple of years.

The look on Penny's face when she made the shield reference was classic!

Yeah. That's what's strange about Sheldon. Everything else, perfectly normal.

I thought the weakness is still there, but it can be overcome through sheer force of will...

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

Thanks for the last lines of dialogue, I missed it too. And CBS.com doesn't seem to show the entire episode.

Great use of Trek and Star Wars lines.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2

I knew I recognized Alicia--who, btw, I loved. I was so worried that the last scene after the fight would be the guys saying "Too bad she moved out" because of Sheldon's bee thing (another great moment). I really hope she sticks around, I like her more than Penny!

And I think it keeps gaining in popularity when it gets used in stuff like the Star Wars Robot Chicken (Admiral Ackbar CEREAL ) and that one-man Star Wars show...

I loved the episode as well. Penny standing up for the guys and the defensive Chinese meal/hang-out session were neat character bits in addition to being pretty funny.

Heck, didn't most of us think, "How do you set it to 'default" to DTS when that's an optional sound format that usually has to be selected from the menu"? Oh, right, I was the only one.

But I'll forgive them for the Green Lantern "slip", which they may simply have ignored on purpose, because it set-up the "number two pencil" line, which was priceless. Sometimes you sacrifice strict accuracy for the sake of the joke.

Regards,

Joe

Plus, it wasn't a slip. The yellow vulnerability is still there--it was simply retconned to allow for a Green Lantern to overcome the colour through force of will.
