Re: House season 5

But wasn't it nice to see Cuddy do something more than just scowl at House, enjoyed the softer side of Cuddy on display.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

House, M.D. - Season One
House, M.D. - Season Two
House, M.D. - Season Three

I love seeing the softer side of Cuddy...if y'know what I mean.

Re: House season 5

Hooray, Wilson and House finally bury the hatchet.

House really is a shameful cuss, hilarious feint to get DNA from his "dad".

It was a little weird to see the old team doing differentials on the current case with the current team.

Re: House season 5

I always thought that Wilson was being an ass about this whole thing anyway, great to see they've kissed and made up.

Funniest line last night...

13,
"Bubbles."

House,
"Is that your new stripper name?"

Fun episode and I cannot wait until next weeks! We get to see Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
13 make out with another girl! But it also looks like she gets fired which I sure hope isn't the case.

Re: House season 5

I thought it was nice. The old team could kick the new teams ass any day of the week. I hope 13 dies next week.

And of course Wilson drives - a Volvo! One painted a neutral color.

Which is ironic, considering that she's hot. Why on Earth would anyone not want a chance to see Olivia Wilde every week?

I want Wilson on the show, but I don't agree with that at all. House is a very abusive friend. Wilson's life is more interesting with House in it, but it's debatable whether it's better.

Re: House season 5

I never thought that House was abusive towards Wilson perse', he's pig-headed, abrasive and stubborn but he was never out right mean towards Wilson.

Wilson behaviour just came across as childish to me.

I thought it was a little too prefunctory, but I'm happy the deed is done. I did enjoy hearing the circumstances of their meeting though. How un-Wilson-like!

More like shameless! I think Hugh Laurie did a good job of projecting real feeling underneath the sarcastic sheen this week. The kiss was a feint to get the DNA, but I think his eulogy was for real. Considering the physical (and possibly sexual?) abuse that House endured under the man (possibly because his father also knew he was someone else's son?) I was actually hoping for a more direct moment on that front. Props. to R. Lee Ermey for coming back and guest starring as a corpse. A lot of actors with his cachet would need more for it to be worth their while.

I think it's a hint of things to come. The show doesn't know how to use them as it stands now.

I absolutely agree about the old team. I love those comparison scenes, because you can see how much the original three were shaped by their time with "House"; they were essentially at the same level as the new three when the show started, and now they take five minutes to reach the point that it takes the new team hours to reach. This matters to me because it refutes the sitcom norm of returning to the status quo.
As for 13 dying, I'm of two minds. I like the character and I like the actress. I don't want to get rid of her simply to get rid of her. But I think the show has two or three more cast members than it knows what to do with, and killing off 13 would allow more breathing room for everybody else. Still, that photo that Tom posted is a compelling argument against.

Great catch! Bland and excessively safe: fits Wilson to a 'T'!

I agree 100%. His antics, first at the rest stop and later with the police car, would be enough to kill most friendships from the get-go. House is awful to Wilson, and the only reason Wilson seems like a dick now is because we've seen him put up with it for so long.

How many of you watched the opening scene over and over? If you didn't, now you can:

Re: House season 5

Hell, I burned this ep to a dvd so that I can A-B repeat that scene.

Great showcase for 13 last night in more ways than the obvious, Olivia Wilde really showed her acting chops.

How did you guys interperate House' reaction to Cuddy's news at the end? I really had a hard time reading him there.

I want to say he upset but why? Was it because he was hurt that Cuddy went to Wilson and not him or because he fears change and he's afraid this will change Cuddy?

I figured that's because he thought he would end up being invited to be the donor father.

Because he fears change. On some level, he despises himself, and therefore believes that he's constantly on the verge of losing what he cares about. Any significant change is a threat to the hallowed status quo. And then he's snarky to cover for it.

I was more fascinated by his actions toward 13. Presumably he set her up with the one night stand when he thought they were both terminal. Why would he do that for 13, find her a partner in dying, if he doesn't care about people? On the rare occasion that House does something nice, I'm always trying to figure out why.

Re: House season 5

He fears/hates change. But, he also cares about Cuddy. I think he's pissed she didn't come to him.

You SHOULD be asking why when he does kind things. But, I love that he does them very subtly. If he didn't, he'd be totally unlikeable.

I wonder if this is still going to be on tonight, with the baseball game last night being partly rained out and having to be resumed. Anyone know?

It will be baseball tonight. Game 5 of the WS was moved from yesterday to today.

Except the rain is supposed to threaten the resumption of last night's game. Fox.com still has the "all-new" House listed. I'd guess they wouldn't show a new House even if it is raining at 8 PM EDT tonight, but you never know.

No baseball tonight: Game Five of the 2008 World Series postponed | MLB.com: Official Info

PHILADELPHIA - Game Five of the 2008 World Series will not resume tonight due to inclement weather. Game Five is now tentatively scheduled to resume on Wednesday evening at 8:37 p.m. (ET), weather permitting.
So, House will be on tonight and most likely the new episode, but we won't really know until we see it.

I liked how they used "Joy" or lack of "Joy" in both subplots.

House was too mean to Cuddy last night. I know he is a bastard, but he was evil last night.

I think it's become obvious he has been ruthlessly hard on her over this because he has always wanted it to be his child. I think he's always had a thing for her.

Re: House season 5

I can't believe no one has mentioned the big smooch between House and Cuddy! That's akin to Scully finally laying one on Mulder.

I was surprised to learn that Madeline Zima (Californication) had a sister, when I saw her name in the opening credits I thought it might be a sibling of hers but as soon as they showed her there was no doubt.

I saw the article on Yahoo yesterday with the title " OMG they finally did it" so it was slightly spoiled for me. I didn't read the article but I assumed did it meant really "did it" so when they only kissed it was anti-climatic.

Re: House season 5

It being a pretty big Dog to take advantage of a woman who is clearly an emotion wreck like he did.

I am starting to really not like him anymore. Before he was mean just because that was the way he was, but now he seems to go out of his way to be mean. I don't like this change. It makes it even harder to watch him.

Madeline Zima (who I remember from "The Nanny") comes from a show-biz family. Her youngest sister Yvonne played Dr. Greene's daughter until the role was recast in 2000. It was the middle sister Vanessa, who first starred in The Baby-Sitters Club in 1995, who played the pregnant mom on Tuesday.
