The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

So, suppose I have a line of code/dialogue that I need to use every day
to insert into a document.

An example of that would be:

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

Now I could create a text file on my desktop that I could easily
access to cut and paste that dialogue into the document I need it for.

However...

What I want to ultimately accomplish is to store that piece of
code/dialogue into an "F1" key for easy retrieval.

In other words, every time I hit the "F1" key the following dialogue
will be pasted into whatever document I am working on....

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

Can this be done without resorting to a software purchase? If not,
what is the software I need to accomplish this task?

Thanks as always!

Re: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

I'm not an expert, but I just experimented and inserted a string using a Word macro.

- Tools > Macro > Record New Macro
- In the window that comes up, assign a key to the macro (I chose Alt-F1.)
- Close the box. Type the string. Hit the "Stop Recording" button.

Now every time I hit alt-F1 I get my string, even in new documents.

(For advanced work I now get to figure out how to remove the macro.)

I'm sure Word macro expert will weigh in on how to improve this macro.

I think Typinator does what you want. I've not used it, so can't comment on quality.

Dave,

Once again I owe you so much. Typinator was exactly what
was needed and it's a great program worthy of purchase.

Al, I very much appreciate your instructions regarding the Word
macro. I would have gone that route but the software program
added the ability to add multiple macros and had auto correction
ability as well. Thanks for the help.

Always glad to be of help. A person can find many useful things while waiting for Matlab to analyze data...
