Almost ashamed to admit it but "New England" by New England on vinyl. Don't Ever Want To Lose You....Da Da Da...

And of course it's the New England part I'm kind-a embarrassed by, not the vinyl part.

Why be embarrassed by either part?  Musical taste is very subjective. :)

Very well put. No longer will I be shy about posting my past guilty pleasures. Now 'scuse me while I cue up some Sugar by "The Archie's". After that, "Snoopy Vs. The Red Barron (don't know who did it because I can't read the name on the label) and then Come Together by (do I even need to say) the Fab Four. Looks like my musical taste was all over the map when I was ten!

If you haven't figured it out yet I just broke out my turntable after many, many years.  There's some really good stuff in this pile of 45's.

Gene,

I own a ton of 45s (including some originals by the Fab Four).  And Sugar Sugar (by the Archies) is on a collection I made (3-CD set) of music from the 1960s.  Good choice! :)

Incidentally, I own a couple of turntables.  I used mine the other night to listen to some Bach performed by Charles Rosen.

Crimson and Clover (Tommy James and the Shondells).

I used to have quite a few (but I wouldn't say tons) 45's and albums from my teen years but I think my brother wound up with them. They were probably safer in his hands.

I'm now listening to Todd Rungrens double live album "Back To The Bars". He's certainly not the best live performer out there but side 4 is really good. Kinda scratchy though. I'm going to have to see if this is available on cd.

BTW, I'm listening to all of this thru a recently purchased H/K 7000 (very basic by todays standard but a hell-uv-a receiver) and a pair of 90's era Infinity Reference 5 towers which are all in the middle of my livingroom while I check them out before putting them up for re-sale.  I think my Swan's are showing an attitude!  And those 5's aren't bad for what they are. I'm hearing every scratch, skip and jump my records and needle can produce. Quite irritating  .

Gene,

Yeah, writing 'tons' was probably a slight exaggeration on my part. ;)

Fugue No. 8 in D-Sharp Minor (Das Wohltemperierte Klavier - Book 1) (J. S. Bach) (Glenn Gould).

America's Greatest Hits  (the original CD pressing and its sound quality puts about 80% of my collection to shame)

Avatar by James Horner (at full blast, I might add). It's my first listen, and so far, I am impressed!

No Stopping Me (M. Cyrus).

Next: Various Zemirot and Pizmonim, performed by a cantor on an interesting (LP) recording I own.  I'm learning about various modes (Ahavah Rabbah, Magein Avot, and Adonai Malach) in which some of these sacred pieces are performed.

Santana-Zebop! A nice Bernie Grundman-mastered title on an original, cheap CBS CD. Yesterday I was on a Mahavishnu Orchestra kick and listened to 3 titles in a row by them.

Rewiring Genesis--A Tribute to the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

(it's played without synths--real string and other instruments replace the synths, but electric instruments like guitar and bass are used)

The drummer (and lead singer) is Nick D'Virgilio of Spock's Beard.  He also played drums on the final (so far) Genesis studio album for some tracks.

Jethro Tull - Live in Montreaux 2003

On Audio Fidelity vinyl

Very nice indeed :)

Disc 2 of Rewiring Genesis (this album will go into heavy rotation for the next little while--really great take on this stuff).

Tori Amos - Midwinter Dreams

It's a holiday album.  Still, some good moments.  The cover is kind of creepy, though.

Paul,

Spock's Beard? I'd never heard of that group until today. Wow.

Kicking and Screaming (M. Cyrus).

Next: Requiem (M. Duruflé).

I've never heard anything by Spock's Beard (though they have a great name) but if Rewiring Genesis is anything to go by, I will certainly check them out.  I've already listened to Rewiring... 3 times in the past 2 days (and may give them another spin before heading off to the cottage tomorrow)--the last time I did that with one album (never mind a double album) was in days as a single guy (just about 10 years ago).  The sound quality is outstanding.

Right now, as I try to finish my marking in time to go on holiday, I'm listening to Mendelssohn's Piano Trios w/Julia Fischer on violin, Jonathan Gilad on piano and Daniel Muller-Schott on cello (Pentatone SACD in MCH--fine performances and outstanding sound quality).

Paul,

I too listened to albums repeatedly when I was younger.  Maybe I had more energy to do that then.

Speaking of Mendelssohn, he's been a favorite composer of mine for nearly thirty years.  Nice choice!

Losing True (The Roches).

The Blu ray disc from the Tom Petty live anthology.

Toto: Falling in Between Live on Blu-ray.

This is an amazing disc. Reference audio quality and the show is very good, too.

Right this minute I am listening to Sinnerman by Nina Simone.  The intro to this song is currently on the Verizon commercial for their Eris smart phone and I had to hear the whole song.  She was an incredible singer.

Lila Downs - La Sandunga

Let's Get Crazy (M. Cyrus).  I love the bass rhythm, and the key.  Her timbre in A minor is rich and a bit different than when she sings in a few other keys.

Its got Jason Derulo's 'In My Head' and 'Watcha Say', 'Fireflies'  by Owl cIty and a whole range of songs by Lady Gaga like 'Bad Romance' and 'Poker face'.
