It's been an Asleep at the Wheel day for me. Brought 5 CDs to work to listen to while I do casework. Still Swingin' 1 & 2, Tribute to the Music of Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys, Ride with Bob and Asleep at the Wheel Remembers the Alamo. Definitely in my comfort zone...

Mozart Piano Concerto #5, 1st movement.

I sprung for a couple of the Brilliant Classics sets.  Mozart and Bach.  325 CDs for under $200 is kind of amazing.  So far, I have been mostly happy with the Mozart (Bach only just arrived and I haven't even tried any out yet) though some of the Chamber recordings seem kind of disappointing, though I haven't listened to them closely.

An outstanding pair of recordings.  Bennett and Evans (together and separately) get a lot of playtime in my house.

It's a Mancini Monday. Started off with the 3 CD box set from RCA, Days of Wine and Roses. Moved on to Instrumental Favorites from Time-Life. Then it was time for the tributes, Shots in the Dark and Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar. Maybe I'll watch some Peter Gunn episodes this evening...

This morning at work, it was 75 of my favorite Merle Haggard songs, all nicely randomized on my Zune.

I love the random function on any of the systems I use. With my 1960s pop-rock collection, consisting of around seventy-three of my favorites on three discs from that time period, I use it often.

Incidentally, when I burned the three-disc set to a one-disc MP3 disc, I found that some systems could read that single disc, while others could not. Thankfully the tunes on my computer work nicely with the shuffle. :)

Blues Tuesday here in SF. Started off with Robert Johnson: The Complete Recordings and now moving through the 3 CD set of Blues Classics: 1927-1969 from MCA.

Hilary Hahn--Lark Ascending (Vaughn Williams)--just finished with my kids sitting on either side of me (3 and 8) as I attempt to instill an appreciation for orchestral music in them.  16 mins. is about as long as I can get the younger one to sit (though I do have to explain "the story"--one I made up--of the music to him to keep him interested).

Cashing in this Wednesday. Started with Roots & Branches: Artists, Songs & Recordings That Inspired The Legend of Johnny Cash. Moved on to the 4 CD box set, Johnny Cash: Come Along And Ride This Train. Will finish off with Kindred Spirits: A Tribute To The Songs Of Johnny Cash and Dressed In Black: A TributeTo Johnny Cash. Might even do some more Cash tomorrow. Saw Johnny Cash in concert here in San Francisco at the Fillmore back in September 1994. Been a fan of his since the '60s. Had 2 LPs of his hits on Sun way back when.
