Re: What are you listening to right now?

When the Levee Breaks (Led Zeppelin).

BTW, does anyone own a recording of the original (Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie)? I'd love to get my hands on it if it is available. I will check a few sources today.

Addendum: What a fascinating recording history the Led Zeppelin track has. I am very intrigued not only by where Bonham's drumming was recorded, but by the harmonica technique (backward echo) and especially the "... sort-of-in-between key" in which the song was recorded. As one with absolute pitch, I've thought for years that turntables were just slightly 'off' when I heard this song on the radio.

Never thought I'd ever say this but I've always wanted to:

Honey, I Shrunk The Kids - OFFICIAL Original soundtrack.

Never thought I'd say this because it was never officially released, as it existed only as a boot...um... unmentionable.

Crystal clear and very dynamic recording of the London Symphony Orchestra and wonderfully crazy/touching/cleverly quoted music!

David,

No, please ask away.

I don't own this particular recording of the work, but the performance I heard on the radio (it was Blue Lake Public Radio, hailing from northern Michigan), was exceptional. It was the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, conducted by Iona Brown. The hornist's names were Hermann Baumann and Timothy Brown (Philips 422346). It was an excellent rendition, however -- very clean and melodically expressive. The two principles were really in sync with one another.

I've also recently heard the older recording of the Dvorak Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Petr Altrichter. The hornists were Zdenek Tylsar and Bedrich Tylsar (Supraphon 0769).

BTW, I would like one day to own both Brain and Tuckwell's recordings of this work, assuming that both recorded the piece. They are my two favorite horn players.

Thanks Scott. I'll have to keep an eye out for those.
