Maybe it's just me, but I am having a hard time cost justifying full season retail for these shortened season sets. I don't care how many extras they throw in, a 15 or 16 season set should not retail for the same price as a full 22-23 episode set. As always, YMMV, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Since I unloaded my original The Big Lebowski several years ago, I will pick up the new (sans bowling ball) special edition. Otherwise, that's it for me this week.

I don't buy any TV on DVD set on releae day anymore, the pattern is too great that a few weeks to a few months later they'll be on sale with a substantial discount

Holy Moly. This one fell off my radar:

Fist of Legend 2-Disc Ultimate Edition

Amazon: 19.99 (currently shows out of stock)
Best Buy: 17.99
DDD: 20.24

Interesting that one of the best, if not THE best, Jet Li kung fu film, gets released the same day as The Forbidden Kingdom...

Actually, Cameron - I figured it out. If you put the Kill Bill blus in your cart at Bestbuy.com, they come up as $24.99 each. Put both in and you get the $10 off - total $39.98 & tax.

If you select store pick-up, you can go get them tomorrow. This is what I'm doing - I cancelled my preorder with Amazon as I'd rather pay $2 tax and go get 'em on release day rather than suffer at the hands of media mail.
Thanks. That was my original plan and I'm glad it is still a go!

I did the same thing. Tomorrow at 5:00, I'll leave work & hit CostCo first (to snag How The West Was Won on Blu), then over to Best Buy to get my Kill Bills. You know, now that I'm thinking about it... maybe I'll just take tomorrow off, get 'em first thing in the morning, and spend the whole day with these three must-have titles!

Cameron: Interesting news. This title WAS on my "new release" list this week but then did dnot appear on any of my retailer lists for this week.

As you can see, BB shows it for a 9-9 release (which I didn't see a few days ago)...but Circuit City and amazon both show it as a 9-2 release.

I hate it when things aren't nice and tidy.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-9-2008

Yeah, I saw the 9/2 date on the Amazon listing and then went back to see if I'd missed it on your previous roundup.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-9-2008

Has anyone actually walked into a Best Buy today and checked the price on Kill Bill.

I would assume they would be showing up as $24.99 each (like Eraser last week).
I would prefer not to do in store pickup and wait in a long line if I don't have to.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-9-2008

I happened to be in a Wal-Mart and Target tonight.

Wal-Mart had The Fist of Legend for $14.98. It did NOT have any copies (SD or BD) of HTWWW. Although they had an empty space in their SD "new catalog" section for $14.98 (labeled, in typical Wal-Mart fashion as HTWWW/FF).

Target had ONLY copies of the Ultimate CE of HTWWW for $42.99. No 2-disc SDs and no BD copies.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-9-2008

To answer my own question.
I did the in store pick up at Best Buy for the $39 deal.
I walked by the Blu-Ray aisle and sure enough, the Kill Bills had an ad sticker that said $29 each.
Now, I'm betting if I would have walked up and bought them at the register they would have rung up as $24.99 but better to be safe then sorry.

Thanks, Doug, for letting us know.

Yeah...I wonder how they would have rung up at the register...

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-9-2008

Neither of the two Costcos around here stocked either the SD or BRD version of HTWWW, even though they show up on the costo.com site.
How much gas did I waste driving around?
I ended up coughing up the $29 at BB.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-9-2008

Looks like Essential Art House and Rashomon from Best Buy are only available online and not in-store. Couldn't find them tonight and their site only has them available for shipment and not in-store pickup.

Shipping's only $1.99 for me Given the price, I'm willing to wait a few days.

And my Kill Bill V1/V2 Blu-ray showed up from Amazon today. Can't wait to watch them this weekend on my new HDTV.

Thanks for the RoundUp Mike!

That's one thing that bothers me about Costco. You can never be sure what new releases they'll have out on Tuesdays. I was pleasantly shocked last week when they had the new Fox Film Noirs on display. I've also noticed around here that Sam's and Costco seem to divvy up DVDs. Last month, Costco had the Errol Flynn Western Collection, while Sam's had the Warner Western Classics Collection.

Well, at least, it builds patience. From experience, I know that, given time, it will all eventually show up. And, even if nothing's there on Tuesdays, I can still get a cheap lunch.

Hey guys,

A word of caution, Wal-Mart is known for having "dumbed downed" versions of movies. I work for a distributor and many deals with Wal-Mart require that we make a special version just for them. Some of the things that are affected are losing a 5.1 soundtrack, deleting bonus material and of course fitting what's left from a DVD-9 onto a DVD-5 so it will fall into their price bracket.

In this case Dragon Dynasty has joined in, "Fist of legend" is NOT A TWO-DISC SET at Wal-Mart, it's only disc one of the two-disc set. Yes it's cheaper but you're not getting everything.

So beware all Wal-Mart versions of DVD releases, make sure you check them against the studios press release or reviews from reputible websites.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-9-2008

As has already been mentioned in recent RoundUps, FYE has started getting a little competitive in their Blu-ray pricing.

While many things are still close to MSRP...they are running the occasional markdowns with some titles running in the $14.99 and $19.99 categories.

Last night, at one of my local FYE stores, I picked up a copy of Wyatt Earp on BD for just $14.99.

I thought that was a pretty good deal. It was originally marked $26.99. Now to go check out reviews of the disc before opening...

I bought the 3 disc SE of HTWWW from Wal-mart for $14.98, the back of the slipcover says it's widescreen even though the tag on the shelve and the bar code both say HTWWW/FF. I price checked it. I made sure it was WS before I bought it but they shrinkwrapped the slipcase over the keepcase, which they rarely do. I haven't unwrapped it yet, I'm afraid to now in case it says FF underneath lol.

I then went over to Best Buy and picked up Child's Play, they only had one copy in stock.
