Law & Order: The Eighth Year is released on Region 1 next Tuesday (7th December). If anyone here is getting the set can they post some comments here about the set please. Thanks.

Whilst checking on Amazon UK in the last few days for Law & Order (Region 2) DVD sets, I spotted a listing for the Law & Order movie Exiled (1998). This was the first time I knew it had been released on DVD, yet in the back of my mind I'm thinking it's been released elsewhere on DVD.

Can anyone confirm if the Boulevard Entertainment DVD release of Exiled is a quality release? I've read not so good comments about Boulevard Entertainment DVD releases. The front cover artwork shows a Universal logo. Did they license it out to Boulevard Entertainment?

Don't know about that, but I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever see more seasons of the original series. All we get is SVU, which to me is simply a "pervert of the week" show, and CI, which is an acquired taste I never acquired. When do we get the rest of the mothership, as the next season starts the Angie Harmon years?

At the moment I'm not worried about when Season 9 (I assume you're referring to this season of the mothership, as it was the first one with Angie Harmon) will be released on Region 1, as there has been a long wait between seasons. Check the last news article but one posted on TVShowsOnDVD, as it gives an indicator of what MAY be released by Universal next on Region 1, both the ninth season (Angie Harmon joined the main cast in this season, the separate movie Exiled aired during this season, and the third and last crossover with Homicide: Life on the Street aired towards the end of this season) and tenth season (Jesse L Martin started his long run on the series and there was a crossover with new series Special Victims Unit).

The seventh season of Law & Order was released on Region 2 in the UK in April last year. No sign yet of the eighth season, so I'm considering getting the Region 1 version. I'm more worried about whether there will be more DVD season sets of the mothership on Region 2, than Region 1 season sets.

The eighth season Region 1 set was released in December 2010, so I'm guessing that the ninth season (and maybe the tenth season as well) will be released at the end of this year. But that's just a guess.

Criminal Intent's sixth season was released on Region 1 three weeks ago, so I don't think we'll be seeing the seventh season until next year (unless they speed up the releases).

Decided to purchase Exiled. Glad to say that it is presented in widescreen (assuming it's presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, like with the sixth and seventh seasons of Law & Order on Region 2. The picture/print quality is a cross between a the soft picture quality of a 90's TV movie and a kind of sharp picture. There are no extras, just a menu screen where you start playing the film. No chapter selections menu, but you can skip through the film.

TVShowsOnDVD have posted a news article on their website today about all twenty seasons of the original Law & Order being released by Universal in one boxset:

Home Cinema @ The Digital Fix news article posted on their website today about Law & Order: The Complete Series:

Law & Order: The Complete Series (R1) in November - Home Cinema @ The Digital Fix news article

To use the words which I've seen on the HTF a few times lately...no sale. Am a Law & Order fan, but I have no interest in purchasing this complete series set. To wait for several months on news of Seasons 9 & 10 on Region 1 (still waiting for news on The Eighth Year being released on Region 2), and then Universal do this, may seem like a relief. But after having a good think about it, it's not. This isn't the first time it's been said, and it won't be the last time, but when you've collected the seasons separately you're not going to want to sell them and get less money back than what you paid for the sets brand new, and then go and buy this complete series set (even when it's discounted).

I think it's great news. At the rate it was going, and being 63, I figured my children would be grandparents by the time the final season was released. It would have been nice to see some extras. The inferior spin-offs seem to get all the love.

Are you referring to extras in the complete series set Rick? If so, what was listed in the Home Cinema @ The Digital Fix news article has been listed in a new TVShowsOnDVD news article. One or more of the Homicide: Life on the Street crossover episodes will be included. They could though have included the following episodes as bonus features as well:

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Entitled: Part 1" (shown during the same season as Season 10 of the 'mothership')

Law & Order: Trial by Jury episode "Skeleton" (follow-up episode to the Law & Order Season 15 episode "Tombstone")

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Design" (this episode's story was continued in the Law & Order Season 16 episode "Flaw").

Cragen (Dann Florek) did make a brief appearance in a Season 15 or Season 6 episode, but that wasn't a proper crossover or continuation of a story.

There seems to be a couple of new interviews (Jesse L. Martin and Fred Dalton Thompson), but that's about it. When you figure there are 11 years of the series that haven't been released until this set, that's pretty thin for a series that is, to put it mildly, historic. Like I said, the inferior spin-offs seem to get all the love.

By the way, the pricing for this set is about the same as would have been paid had the 11 seasons been released individually (they ran around $40 at Amazon), so the it's not out of line at all. What would have really made everyone's day would be a real bonus -- a proper final episode, either in one-hour or movie of the week format. It's a pipe dream, but a nice one.

Couple of quick corrections.

1. The Fred Dalton Thompson and Jesse Martin stuff isn't new. The interviews were on the Season 14 set.

2. The TVshowsondvd post only says "HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET CROSSOVER EPISODES " It doesn't mention whether all three will be available or just the two that were already released on the season 6 & 8 sets.

Have corrected my last post, the part about the number of Homicide: Life on the Street crossover episodes being included in this complete series set of Law & Order.

Rick, I too would like to see a follow-up to the end of the original series, tying up loose ends. Ideally I'd like to see a big screen Law & Order movie. The CSI franchise beat Law & Order to a three-part crosssover story (I know which I think is the better set of shows), so I'd like to see the Law & Order series do something which the CSI shows haven't done.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

One of the Law & Order characters in Season 20 has been seen since the series ended in May 2010 (Alana Da Le Garza reprising her characer in I think the last nine episodes of the LA spin-off) and another will be seen on screen in at least one episode of SVU's 13th season, with Linus Roache reprising his character Michael Cutter in the season premiere (I hope he appears in more than one episode).

As well as seeing The Eighth Year released on Region 2, another thing I'm more concerned in seeing released on DVD, than the Law & Order complete series set, is (and this is off-topic) Homicide: The Movie.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sam Waterston pop-up at some point either.

It's not the same role which Sam Waterston played in the last three seasons of Law & Order, but I'm wondering if Michael Cutter's role as Bureau Chief will see him become a recurring character on SVU, like with Fred Dalton Thompson (and Sam Waterston, even though he guest starred in less episodes of SVU).

Disappointed that Season 14 isn't going to be presented in widescreen in the complete series set.
