7.1 setup question

Hi guys , just wondering how many of you have a 7.1 setup and if yes , how does it sound and is it worth it to upgrade? i was reading in widescreen review that when you go over to a 7.1 standard setup that when listening to dvd's in 5.1 the sound will be coming from the side speakers , not the back. So being that mostly all of the blu ray dvd's are in 5.1 is it strange that the sound comes from the sides and not the rear ? just curious to see what you guys think that's all. thank you.

Not strange at all since that is how a 5.1 system should be set up - Dolby Labs.

Re: 7.1 setup question

Quite right. 5.1 does not use the back (rear) channels. It's supposed to be that way.

Re: 7.1 setup question

sorry for the double post but when playing 5.1 DVD's my rear surrounds play the same stuff as the surround right and left

Re: 7.1 setup question

After putting in 7.1 about 4 years ago, I'd never even consider 5.1. With a good receiver that has the ability to matrix (ProLogic IIx, for example), it doesn't matter if the source is 7.1 or not. IMO, the difference between 7.1 and 5.1 is huge.

Either you're not using the correct setting on your receiver or your receiver doesn't have the ability to decode correctly. Do you have Dolby ProLogic IIx?
