Yeah, the editing was definitely off on this one, like they'd reached their ideal cut and still had to cut more to make time. The first two thirds of this episode felt off-rythym. I'd also have thought there'd be more build-up to Chuck's inevitable fugitive status: which makes me think it'll be resolved in an episode or three with no major consequences.

Fantastic ending though.

Given the uncertain nature about the status of it next season and that we only have two episodes left this season (4/20 and 4/27) I hope it will only take 2 episodes at most to resolve.

Re: Chuck season 2

Unfortunately, it looks like NBC is considering Chuck for the chopping block. It would be a terrible shame as the show is very well written and entertaining. Who can we write to in order to make sure NBC knows that there are many loyal viewers out here that don't want to see the show go the same way that Pushing Daisies went? (Another very creative show down the tubes).

Re: Chuck season 2

I totally agree with the view about trashy reality TV. I mean, seriously, "reality"? I get enough reality in my own life. I want good entertainment at night and CHUCK and LIFE are two that are on the bubble. I am about at the point where rabbit ears and a digital converter box are going to be all I need to save money on my cable bill, as well. Don't the networks read things like this to see that people really like these show?

Re: Chuck season 2

Heck, don't even have to worry about the cable bill. Chuck, like most things on a major net, you can get in super-high quality in HD with just a pair of rabbit ears.

And far less compressed than the HD you get from satellite and cable.

Advertising Age took a look at the product placement in the last episode: Subway Places More Than Just Product in NBC's 'Chuck' - Advertising Age - Madison+Vine: News
Maybe such placement can help keep the show around?

Re: Chuck season 2

That was good placement. I didn't even really recognize it as such. It was done naturally, unlike the times it was done on Smallville.

"I think Clark's number is in my purse. Oh, hey, look! It's my new Acuvue disposable lenses, only from Johnson & Johnson, a family company!"

"We need a distraction! I'll show the guard my brand new Ford Focus. It has passenger-side airbags, a built-in CD changer, and carries an MSRP of around $16,000!"

"I could really go for some STRIDE GUM. Do you have any STRIDE GUM? Oh, thanks for the STRIDE GUM! And, look! It got liquid meteor rock on it, so now I have super powers from eating STRIDE GUM!"

Or worse, "Psych" where the characters stop for a little infomercial in the middle of the episode. I figured the Subway bit was product placement since it's the first time they used a real brand name on the show, but it didn't bother me at all. Big Mike loves food.

I always thought the Psych bits were deliberately over-the-top, the producer's way of saying, "We're contractually obligated to do this, we don't have to make any effort to hide it." And it also fits with the winking-at-the-audience, almost-breaking-the-fourth-wall vibe the show has always had.

Re: Chuck season 2

Apparently the ratings for "Chuck" have finally started to trend upward, but Ben Silverman wants to dump it because they need to make room on the schedule for new 10 p.m. drama "Southland" which both Silverman and Zucker have a lot invested in. "The Jay Leno Show" means they have NBC has to eliminate a lot more shows than a network normally would.

"Southland" currently leads its timeslot with 9.6 million viewers. "Chuck" is currently fourth in its timeslot with 6.22 million viewers. It's also more expensive to produce than the latest in a long string of cop shows.

And it pisses me off. When I'm watching a TV show (and especially an hourlong), I don't want to be reminded that I'm watching a TV show. It's too cute by half and means that all future viewings of the episode are stuck with an increasingly dated ad in the middle of them.

It wasn't the first such use of Subway. Besides the bachelor party placement mentioned in the article, there was also the episode where Jeff was having a Subway eating contest with someone else. I think they've actually showed Subway quite a lot.

Does that mean it's official that Chuck is kaput? I wasn't going to watch it anyway, but now I say I will never watch Southland out of pure spite. I'm also not secretly hoping Leno Primetime is a huge bomb.

Unfortunately, the networks are looking at the bottom line and the harsh reality, no pun intended is that these so-called "reality" shows are cheaper to produce. I have no clue who watches them, though. I refuse to watch any of these crappy shows. Like you said I want good entertainment when I watch TV. I don't want to be reminded of my own reality.

Nope, that's just the reason it's on the bubble. If NBC still had three hours of programming to fill each night, my guess is that "Chuck" would have already been renewed. But when you're losing five hourlong slots a week, something's got to give.

Is there a source for how Ben Silverman wanting to dump it? I haven't read anything like that and if it is true that is really bad news. Everything I've read has talked about how big a fan Silverman is of the show---not that it is safe by any means. If he now "wants" to dump it rather than feeling like he may "need" to dump it, then I'd say it is all over for Chuck.

Agreed. If the show were canceled tomorrow, this would have been a fitting end to the series.

Re: Chuck season 2

Almost. If it had had the wedding, it would have been perfect. I imagine next week's episode will look like everything is wrapped up, and then there will be a tag scene that shows that things could continue. Then, we will most likely have to use our imagination.

Great stuff, though. The bedroom scene was very sexy.

Re: Chuck season 2

Fantastic episode. Looking forward to next week's season (series?) finale. Hopefully NBC will see the light and we'll get more Chuck.

Re: Chuck season 2

I need more Chuck, Sarah and Casey. Please NBC, return this show.

If not last nights episode would be a very good ending. Awesome episode.

Re: Chuck season 2

I think they've set the ground so next week's wedding could easily be "the end of the show" and everyone would be OK, or it could go on. But it's great to tie up infinite things.

One really gross-pervert thing though:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The condom moment was ridiculous. You know that Chuck would have had infinite bloodwork tests done by the government, in fact, we've seen in the past where he's been drugged to get tests, even fulcrum has them. So, she obviously knows he's not diseased. And you know she's using her own.. protection thanks to her line of duty. I seriously doubt the "oh, bad luck" moment would have come up, except it's a network family friendly type show that couldn't work out another way. But I think that was a really goofball way to get out of it

Re: Chuck season 2

Do you honestly think Chuck is going to put that much thought into it at that moment? I mean, he's Chuck. Even if he figures he and Sarah are both disease-free, he's not going to think that Sarah likely has some sort of contraceptive implant because he just, by his nature, does not consider how things must work for spies.

Besides, it was one of the episode's funniest moments, and absolutely the sort of thing Morgan would do.

Yeah, I agree, which is why I thought it was odd he dashed to the bathroom to look.

Funnily enough, my first thought was that he was dashing to the bathroom to freshen his breath.

Re: Chuck season 2

Great episode last night and it would've been a great way to end the show. If it had been a series finale, I would've been disappointed, but satisfied. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like they will be wrapping up things nicely if there isn't a third season:

It was one of the Ausiello type blogs (not Ausiello though; can't remember which one). I think "wants" was a bad word choice on my part though; I think it's more that Chuck's slot is where he's looking to put "Southland".

It's not something they want the audience to be particularly thinking of, either. Birth control is not sexy, nor is a latent venereal disease contracted in the line of duty. It was a hilarious moment on a lighthearted series, and that was enough for me.
