Chuck season 2 - Page 10

Re: Chuck season 2

I was using the 3D glasses, and I found that the red side was too dark for me, and it was annoying to watch the 3D footage for the commercials for Chuck and Monsters vs. Aliens.

Re: Chuck season 2

Someone posted a still image from the show and I found that it takes quite a while to adjust to the effect (at least for me). After your eyes and mind adapt, it a nice effect. I don't think a commercial is long enough to get "into it".

I also heard that both standard and 3D versions will be available on-line.

Re: Chuck season 2

The commercials really looked good on my 46 inch Bravia. My wife, who generally hates dealing with 3D stuff, was actually impressed at how good it looked.

Re: Chuck season 2

I could barely see the effect for Monsters and Aliens (which looked terrible from a story aspect; I'm not impressed with multiple crap jokes), except for the paddle ball, but it was noticeable for whatever the following commercial was. It didn't look so much like it was coming out into my living room but that it had depth into the TV.

Re: Chuck season 2

I forgot to pick up the glasses, so didn't get to check out the movie ad. I am looking forward to seeing Yvonne in 3D, however, since this is as close to seeing her in the flesh as I'm ever going to get.

Later,

Joe

Re: Chuck season 2

I actually wasn't paying attention at halftime, and I don't watch any previews, so does anyone know how distracting the effect was without 3D glasses?

Re: Chuck season 2

Is the whole episode going to be in 3D or just some sequences. I like to Chuck and don't want to miss it because of some gimmick. I've not missed an episode yet. Hopefully I can get some glasses after work today.

Edit: Success. There were a few at my local Target.

I've been DL thru Itunes since I've cancelled my DVR Service hopefully they'll get a copy without the effect, and it was pretty distracting with the Red and blue ghosting lines I would'nt want to watch 45 min likes this... usually gimmicks like this, and an increase in big names stars fortell rating issues for a series.

Re: Chuck season 2

Genius marketing, attract viewers by having them schlep all over creation for shit vendors don't even have to be able to watch your 'on the bubble' show.

I've never missed an episode, now I'm so tired and pissed I may never watch another.

Re: Chuck season 2

I trial ran my 3D glasses on the Monsters vs. Aliens commercial and it's no thank you for me. While the 3D effect is there, the price is a reduced screen brightness by about 300-400%. I don't want to watch Chuck in 3D under those conditions. I'll watch it normally and suffer through the chromatic aberration halos.

Re: Chuck season 2

Clearly this one episode has ruined the entire series, and indeed life as we know it, for a number of members of the forum. I hope the network has learned its lesson: never try anything new, even if it is a gimmick, because the only result is alienating valuable viewers.

Re: Chuck season 2

Wow! The show cut to the quick tonight. Surprise! Surprise! Well that should make many of you folks happy tonight. Chuck got the goods of his chest right away with Sarah.

My only caveat was that the whole issue just kind of got swept under the rug. You killed an unarmed person and oh I lied about it. That’s it? Disappointed in the moment myself. A wonderful opportunity for the characters to explore some fertile dramatic territory squandered. Sad.

The main thing about that scene was just how false it was for Chuck to accept Sarah’s spy rationalizations and for Sarah to be so unaffected. Especially when we saw her conflict after shooting Mauser. They might as well have talking about the weather.

The first truly, totally false moment in the series. But its done and over with and the show can move on.

Dom was hilarious. Cheesy As was Casey with his darts.

The scene with Chuck convincing Dom to go onstage was nicely done too.

The BuyMore stuff after the opening act was weak IMHO.

Entertaining but a middling episode.

The 3D stuff was rather hit and miss to me. Expect that it needs to be seen in HD with the appropriate calibration and better glasses.

Re: Chuck season 2

Yeah, the Monsters vs. Aliens trailer last night was way more effective than "Chuck" tonight. Other than the knife thow on the roof top nothing stood out to me. I'd honestly have prefered they just stayed away from the 3D altogether.

I'm not saying I won't watch another, but I didn't watch tonights, and won't.

I went to three different f'cking grocery markets, a walmart and a walmart grocery, and NONE of them had any glasses, and none of the grocery stores had anyone who had ever seen any.

The strategy to distribute these things was basically crap. So, I'm not going to watch an episode that looks like a blurry mess just to say I watched it.

Nice work, NBC, on making the glasses readily available.. as in, available where (?)

Re: Chuck season 2

Well, watch it online. They said it would be available in both 3D and non-3D there.

Ugh. I have a splitting headache now. I wish it had just been run normally. The 3D effect was hard to detect at times and it caused the picture to be dark, blurry and desaturated. I like the idea but not the execution. It distracted me from the episode. I liked it, but agree that the confrontation was disappointing. She should have explained the words the Fulcrum agent was whispering to her.

My supermarket had a bin full of them in the fish section. However, NBC also had a toll-free number to call if you just want them to mail you a sheet.

I just want to note that *I* managed to get 2 pairs of the glasses. And I live in Calgary, Alberta. In Canada. Where they aren't available. Just sayin'...

A friend of mine had a neighbor who--when he saw an exceptionally beautiful woman--would always say, "Who gets to f*** all of that? No, really . . . I want to see the motherf***er who gets to f*** all of that!" Ahh, I can hear his voice in my head while I watch this clip.

Wow! Awesome casting this year.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Picardo, Chase, and Bakula in the second half of the season! Pretty hard not to get stoked!!!
Please use Spoiler Tags for info that us non-preview people wouldn't want to hear! Please!!! I purposefully avoid preview information, I don't watch the next week's preview after the episode. As for the 3D: I found the Chuck 3D much better than the SuperBowl commericals. The commercials were muddy and blurry. Chuck had had truer colors and the 3D effects worked better for me. That doesn't make any sense, as they are the same production and technology.

I thought 3D Chuck was the best anaglyph 3D I've ever seen on TV. Perhaps having a brand new TV helps, but the 3D effects were apparent from start to finish, blurring was modest and there was little eyestrain.

My wife, however, was thoroughly annoyed. At one point, I'm skipping the commercials on Tivo, and bemoans, "I can't believe we're only halfway through!" Her other choice comments were, "I expect much more from 3D" and "The best part was the before the show started with the sparkle stars". And the 3D glasses didn't fit over her eyeglasses. And I too was glad when it was over. There was some eyestrain and the two-color filters never work perfectly, so there's some color blurring on the edges, the brightness is dimmed, and the whole thing has an annoyance factor to it.

So best ever 3D TV, but best still isn't good enough. I don't know why people keep trying to 3D on TV. At best, it's a mediocre gimmick. At worst it's annoying, ruins an otherwise good show, and drives audience away. I'll be good without another 3D TV show for a few more years.

I also thought the 3-D effects worked pretty well. Still, I could have done without it. We'll have to see wait for the ratings to see if it did attract some new viewers to the show.

Re: Chuck season 2

On the other hand, I enjoyed the Arrested Development references ("No Touching" and Final Countdown) and the Shawshank Redemption references (Zihuatenajo, opera, and "Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'".).

Bessides the thrown knife, I though that Chuck's flashes worked in 3D. Also the grenade countdown clock.

Re: Chuck season 2

3D effect was fine on my 67" HDTV. This amber-blue format is generations better than the old red-blue. It was also reasonably watchable without 3D glasses, where the red-blue (e.g., The House of Wax) version was pretty unbearable without glasses.

Re: Chuck season 2

I watched it without the 3D glasses and it wasn't horrible, though I am still annoyed about it, especially since some people are saying that the only thing that really took a lot of advantage of the effect was the knife-throwing on the roof. What's the point even then other than for the promotional reasons? Oh, wait, answered my own question.

I don't what NBC's spin is but the early results from NBC gets slight post-Bowl bump; Fox slips--The Live Feed are
Quote:
After heavy promotion during Sunday's Super Bowl telecast, two NBC dramas received ratings bump Monday night, with "Chuck" and "Heroes" demonstrating gains from their last original episodes. ...
The special 3-D episode of "Chuck" (8.3 million, 3.0 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and a 7 share) was up 15% from its previous airing in December and marked a season-high rating. While the launch of the "Fugitives" edition of "Heroes" (8.5 million, 3.9/9) climbed 5% from its last outing....
Still, while the "Chuck" gain should please the network, NBC was likely hoping to spark more fans returning to "Heroes," ...
There is a nice picture of Chuck diving into the audience with the article.

I like the nice Star Wars reference....IG-88.

Re: Chuck season 2

My wife asked what was so funny when I laughed at the IG-88.

I gotta say, this episode was awful. Beyond the boring 3-D effects, the story was rushed. They really should have stretched Sarah's lying to Chuck over 2-3 episodes, with him doubting her at every turn on things she's saying, even for simple things like going to the bathroom or the store -- just to have an air of suspicion over her both serious and comedically would have been better.

In terms of the 3-D, other than the countdown clock and flashes, the 3-D fell really flat for me.

Re: Chuck season 2

I don't watch Superbowls, so I missed the whole story about the 3D and found the episode unwatchable. Someone tell me why we need lousy 3D experiments about every 20 years...
