Re: WHV Announcement: Superman Doomsday (DVD/Blu-ray)

Meh. $10 too expensive. Essentially what's here is lots of marketing for Warner's other Timm animated titles, and they make us pay more for it?

I think I'll rent this or wait for it to be on sale.

I'm a completist. Yeah, I'm there, sadly.

Why is the Blu-ray version listed as "Blu-ray DVD"?

Re: WHV Announcement: Superman Doomsday (DVD/Blu-ray)

I just watched Superman Doomsday again on dvd. It's the weakest of the DC DVDs and I don't see any reason to upgrade.

I do wish I held out for the New Frontier Blu-Ray. That movie was excellent.

Re: WHV Announcement: Superman Doomsday (DVD/Blu-ray)

I'm not going for this.
the story was a weak interpretation of the death of supes.

the story was extremely truncated.
an 80 minute animated version of this story just doesnt give enough time.

i used to have a audio cassette of this that was a full cast recording
telling the entire complete story from beginning to end and it was brilliantly done.

i wish i still had it, actually even more i wish it was on cd.

It was not only truncated but tremendously changed. The third act had no connection to the original story.

Weak doesn't even begin to describe it. Putting the death of Superman on film-a straight adaptation of the material-would have been majestic. The movie ended up with none of the gravitas, the emotion, the heartbreak, the battle between two titans.

Sure, the story had to be truncated a bit to fit a manageable running time, but the result was absolutely cringeworthy.

I agree that it's been the best of the post-DCAU TV series, but none of the 3 so far have impressed me too much.

I just don't understand why Timm & company decided to jettison their voice actors & the animated style from the TV series when they moved to feature length. They could have really taken that to the next level.

These films are just not working well so far. Gotham Knights was just a mess. Doomsday had some good points, but as others have said, they really didn't respect the source material.
