Re: American Idol - Season 8
Last night was a bit better than the night before, as they focused more on the Hollywood contestants than the untalented losers. I liked the girl at the end although she was too shiny and appears to be attracted to thugs.
I don't know what to think of Joanna Paccitti. On the positive side, she has a good voice, she's attractive (I thought that she was Jessie O'Donoghue from the preivews), and she doesn't try to oversing like Carly.
But the problem is that this is her second (or third) go round, and it feels like she's violating the spirit of the competition. Now, I know AI is not exactly Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts (and who knows if AGTS was ever AGTS), but there is a component of AI breaking a struggling or unknown musician that is lost when you're taking a Joanna (or a Carly) who's already had their big break and couldn't make anything of it. I mean, what's the difference between putting Joanna on the show and, say, Taylor Hicks after he was dropped by his label? Then again, she doesn't try to shatter all the glass in the room when she sings and she was more up front about her level of industry participation than Carly was, but at this point she is Carly Smithson 2.0.
I realize that Kurt Warner wasn't that great a match, but I shy away from things that are too obvious like Robert Downey Jr. I was more in an NFL playoffs mind when I came up with that one. The Andy Reid one turned out much better (mostly because that contestant was a freakazoid).
Here are some new ones from this week's shows:
