They announced no Idol Gives Back awhile ago. It was covered in one of the threads here (which is the only place I get AI news).

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Recently, our local newspaper quit printing out a TV schedule for the week with Sunday's paper. Now I have to check all my schedules online and I'm finding the online schedule iffy.

According to various forums I've seen, there is a 2-hour performance show on Tuesday, Feb. 24, with a one-hour result show on 2/25. However, according to the Metromix Honolulu online schedule (which gives 2 weeks in advance), that week the performance show is on 2/25 with results on Thursday, 2/26. Could someone verify the correct days that week? Thank you -- I already rearranged my schedule for Tuesday/Wednesday.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Yes. There's a political speech on that Tuesday. Idol shifts to Wed/Thurs for the week.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Hello Everyone!

Always late to the party. Actually, I have less time these days to
comment, so I apologize it has taken me this long to join all of you
in what will be my first post to this thread.

Good to see all of you back this year, particularly Hanson who is
again in rare form.

I have been watching this show since the auditions, and I have to
sincerely say that this seems to be THE most exciting season to date.
Never before have I taken such an interest in the "personalities" that
encompass the final 36. Yes, this seems to be a show full of
"personalities" that also have the talent of voice.

With that in mind, let me cast a few opinions on what I have seen thus
far and expect for the rest of this season....

Best Personality
ronshit_nick.jpg
Nick Mitchell
Without a doubt, this guy is a real showstopper! At first I thought
he was out of his fucking mind, but continually watching him in
character brought so much appreciation for what he was attempting
to do. Never before has an Idol contestant been able to combine
"shtick" with "singing" and be able to pull it off. I am rooting for
this man!

Most Annoying
ronshit_nathaniel.jpgronshit_tatiana.jpg
Nathaniel Marshall and Tatiana Nicole Del Toro
Not exactly certain who is worse. You have this guy and girl that
can't keep their emotions in check. I feel very bad for Nathaniel's
difficult life, but geez, man up, buddy. As for Tatiana...well....she's
just gotta suck her emotions in as well.

The "Hottie"
ronshit_jackie.jpg
Jackie Tohn
How do come I across not sounding like a dirty old man about a girl
more than half my age? Well, I can't. But if I was twenty some odd
years younger I would be in absolute lust. This girl has terrific looks
and a bubbling, wild personality. I love this girl, and I hope she goes
far in this competition.

The Winner
ronshit_danny.jpg
Danny Gokey
Just something about this guy's voice and delivery. He seems like he
was born to record. The only way he may get beat is if Scott MacIntyre
turns out to be the next Stevie Wonder/Ray Charles.

Very excited about this year's show. Really, the best lineup of talent
that I have seen to date.

Darn speech -- I already shifted my caregiver schedule for my parents. I'll have to rearrange again.

Thanks for the links, Micah. The TV Guide one might be good as it shows more than a week in advance.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Jackie is the hottie? Over Anne Marie, Kendall, etc?

ETA: Can't believe I forgot Casey, sorry Hanson!

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Jackie sounds like a 5 pack a day smoker, does a pee-pee dance when she sings, has no idea how to dress herself, and looks like an only slightly younger Edna Garrett. I don't think you could find many people to consider Jackie A hottie much less THE hottie. Actually Ron, I believe you're in that boat by yourself
post #251 of 1372

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Jackie's got a rather lengthy wikipedia entry. She doesn't have the music field experience that Joanna Pacitti had, but it's still a little ridiculous to give someone an Idol slot to someone who has "appeared in the television shows The Nanny, The Sopranos, Strangers with Candy, Angel, Veronica Mars, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Use your already established show biz credentials to start a side career and let someone else have a chance.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

The new print edition of Entertainment Weekly lists the top five most popular AI sites (official and fan). I was SHOCKED that Hanson's "Separated at Birth" page didn't make it---I emailed them to let them know of the oversight and hopefully will see a corrected list in an upcoming issue!

Re: American Idol - Season 8

I was shocked too. According to my tracking counter, I had at least 26 hits the past month. I don't know what their hit threshold is, but I'm curious.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Their threshold is 30 unique hits per month.

Wow! I sure am....and it's sinking.

...then again, I thought all the Golden Girls were hot, so go figure!

BTW, Hanson, that Blog page of yours with the 2008 contestants is some funny shit.
I don't know how you do it, but some of those photos are "spot on."

That takes talent!

Ohhhhh... unique hits. Well then, forget it.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

I think the American Idol judges made a big mistake by not getting rid of Tatiana now. I was just at an American Idol poll run by tv.com. And while most of the final 36 have 1% of the vote (Danny has 9%). Tatiana is blowing everyone away with 27%. It's the whole vote for the worst idol nonsense that kept inferior singers on Idol for much longer than they should have been. Now, you are going to see these groups pushing Tatiana.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Dude, the producers know why they are keeping Tats on the show, she generates buzz, good or bad, and that's all they care about.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

Agreed, Patrick.

Another reason why Nick Mitchell sailed through (though he does
have talent).

Re: American Idol - Season 8

I think the producers were really annoyed with Sanjaya in season 6 (I remember Nigel Lithgow wanting him off the show pronto). But the thing they missed last year was Sanjaya -- it was boring without him. This year, with Nigel off working full time on SYTYCD, the producers went looking for a Sanjaya to make AI watercooler talk again. And they've suceeded somewhat -- Tatiana is topic one when it comes to this year's Idol. However, I don't think you can manufacture a Sanjaya -- it has to be the divine accident. Keep in mind that Sanjaya was actually popular and not just a joke being propped up by the VFTW crowd -- he was actually contender going in with a lot of facetime to work up an enthusiastic fanbase. I don't think Tatiana has the juice to make it past round one because all she really has is the VFTW crowd to "Carrie" her to the top 12. Seriously, everybody I talk to hates her. I wouldn't really put a lot of stock into online polls.

I know that. But, Nick and Sanjaya were not grating and irritating like Tatiana is. And she also seems to be a bit unstable. Look how she reacts. And yes..I know the producers would love to have a full Tatiana-meltdown on tv. She is just so annoying that it makes me almost want to change the channel.

Re: American Idol - Season 8

The only three we need are Anne Marie, Casey and Sanjaya's sister. If it turns out they can't sing and Fox doesn't want them, Cinemax late night would be okay.
