Unshielded speakers a problem?

I had a friend ask me the other day...

"Do unshielded speakers cause a problem with Rear Projection DLP sets? In particular the newer Samsung and Mitsubishi models?"

I though it was a good question but I didn't know the answer. I know unshielded speakers are fine with LCD and Plasma but what about DLP RPTVs?

Unshielded speakers are only a problem with direct-view CRT televisions. That's because only direct-view CRTs create the image by firing a stream of electrons at the back of a phosphor-coated tube, and the magnets in unshielded speakers can deflect that stream of electrons. They can't deflect beams of light, which is what all rear-projection systems - including CRT, DLP, LCD and LCos - use to produce the screen image. (CRT-RP sets obviously use three cathode-ray guns - red, green and blue - to generate the initial images that are then projected and combined on the back of the screen, but these are buried too deep in the set for speaker magnets to affect them.)
