I also thought that some of the "magic" was missing last night. The whole circus mystery didn't really work for me. The end bit was pretty nice. I had hoped that the secret of Chuck was going to be revealed - and there were a few spots where they teased us about that.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

On the other hand, I laughed pretty continuously throughout the episode - all the clown corpses coming out of the car had me in stitches, the over-the-top slapstick of Chuck jumping over the counter, and more or less every scene with Chi McBride: There was something about Emerson's late-night tea with Ned that seemed perfectly bizarre, and the final scene with the repeated "love her" had him finding three new ways to make a single line work. I'm less than thrilled with the convent subplot, but did love the deadpan humor of the different prayer times ("late mid-morning prayers").

Chi McBride really ought to win some sort of award for this part, though. His ability to make something great out of stereotypes and sometimes-forced quirkiness is fantastic.

Circus Circus
Was an enjoyable episode, but nothing too grand.

We learn that Emerson's wife ran away with his daughter.
I'm wondering if his daughter is going to die soon and have Ned bring her back to life.

All the dead clowns coming out of the recovered car in the lake was pretty funny. An easy joke, but very funny.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

Okay so I listened/watched last nights episode. When they showed scenes that didn't involve clowns I could watch, but anything clown related I had to look away. I tried! Really I did! I just cannot look at clowns.

That said, I thought the scenes with Olive were too funny. I also loved the whole end scene with Ned and Chuck "meeting" for the first time. So sweet!

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

One great thing about this episode is all the clowns died.
Dead clown are less creepy.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

Funny detail in the convent sequence: When Olive crossed herself, she did it wrong. I'm not sure if we've seen anyone else make the same mistake, but I'll be watching for it in the future.

Loved the parade of ex-clowns. Of course I saw it coming, and I still laughed out loud.

Her next contract should require Anna Friel to wear that green blouse at least once per episode.

Her next contract should stipulate that Kirstin Chenoweth never again play Olive as a nun or novice, astronaut, medical professional or in any other line of work where the uniform covers more than 40% of her skin.

Regards,

Joe

True, but they left the mimes alive, so they only did half the job.

The nun costume was probably a contractually demanded "penance" dictated to the producers after what Chenoweth had to wear last season.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

I went into this episode with my arms folded after disliking the previous two episodes, but it won me over. Maybe it's because breaking up the gang, even for one and a half episodes, wasn't working for me. I like that Ned went ahead and told the secret to Chuck. Now, I just hope that the sisters (Lily and Vivian--not the nuns) learn about Chuck being alive soon. I don't know why it is, but I no longer have much patience for secrets being kept from certain characters. Maybe it's all the Lana in the dark stuff that went on for years on Smallville.

I also was quite happy that he told Chuck. I also think Chuck needs to reveal herself to Lily and Vivian. It really seems like they are building up to that and it might not be too long. It was quite a fun episode with Pigby the accidentally killer pig as the "villain" of the episode.

I liked all the references to Vertigo!

The banter and one liners were terrific, Emerson has some great lines.

Second week in a row I forgot to watch this show.

My favorite was the proxy high five. He didn't realize what they were asking at first. He likes to come across as crusty, but he plays along with it even when grumbling about it.

At the very end, they actually showed two pig's feet pushing the woman out the belfry

Until they are reanimated and undead!

Finally got "Circus Circus" from iTunes and loved it. The joke with all the clown corpses being taken from the car was great (the actor who plays the coroner is awesome!). Also loved Lily cursing a blue streak in the nuns' chapel with her bible full of booze as she tries unsuccessfully to convince Olive that she never slept with Charles Charles, yet somehow made him believe he was Chuck's father.

This show is on Yahoo!'s list of "shows in trouble" of cancelation.

Not a surprise since discussion of it here has even dropped off.

This week's episode will be its big chance as FOX, NBC, and CBS are running the Obama paid spot at 8 PM. With any luck there will be a good number of people watching it this Wednesday and they'll stick around in subsequent weeks.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

I sure hope ABC doesn't cancel this show, I find "Pushing Daisies" to be one of the most entertaining, innovative, endearing and visually appealing shows available on air or cable. It's hard to believe that the viewership has dropped off that much from last season to make the network just toss this diamond in the rough to the curb. I have_ noticed a drop in discussion here on this thread this season, but, heck, I noticed that about "Grey's Anatomy" 2 years ago and ABC hasn't canceled that show.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

Personally I think that last scene was less romantic than sadistic. Heckuva thing to do in front of a guy who can't touch you.

Reminds me of the punchline to an old joke:

Quote:
Wherein a married couple are forbidden to have sex lest the husband's fragile heart goes. Late one night, after months of deprivation, the husband meets his wife on the stairs that connect the living room, where he's been sleeping, to the master bedroom. "I was just coming upstairs to kill myself," says the husband.

"That's OK," says the wife. "I was just coming downstairs to murder you."

Regards,

Joe

I thought he was going to hug her through the wrap, as they were able to hold hands in a previous episode using a glove in the car - and then the wrap wasn't there...a welcome surprise to everyone except for him...

I just keep thinking of the full body condom in the naked gun movies...

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

It's sad that such a great show appears to be going down in flames. I don't really understand where the audience went.

It was a huge mistake not to bring the show back after the strike. Much of the audience probably thought it was cancelled then.

Yes, ABC really made a mistake in not bringing this show and others back after the writers' strike was over. The show lost any momentum it had achieved before the strike. I hope ABC will give PD a chance to find its audience again, like last season.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

Unfortunately any momentum Pushing Daisies might get from only going up against Obama Top Model tonight might be lost next week. Due to the election results preempting Dancing with the Network Stars on Tuesday, that will preempt Pushing Daisies on Wednesday.

Does anyone know what the numbers were for last night? My wife was surprized that this was the only actual show that was on at 8:00, and actually watched it with me for once. She is now a convert...

"ABC's "Pushing Daisies" was fourth at 4.0/6, only slightly better than its season average thus far." from TV Ratings: World Series, Obama draw solid numbers Wednesday - 'Pushing Daisies' gets a slight boost against campaign ad - Zap2it

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

According to Exclusive: 'Pushing Daisies' creator Bryan Fuller says he might return to 'Heroes' | TV Ratings | Hollywood Insider | EW.com
Byron Fuller says
Quote:
"I am exclusive to Daisies through the delivery of the 13th episode of our 13-episode order, which will be mid-January," says Fuller. "If Daisies isn't picked up by then, I will definitely be going back to play with my friends at Heroes."
So, would ABC try to keep Fuller from returning to Heroes by extending the life of Pushing Daisies? The articles doesn't think so due to the low ratings that Daisies is getting, but we can hope.

Re: Pushing Daisies - Season 2

I'll be very disappointed if we don't get a full season. I thought there was finally an original show I enjoyed that was going to avoid the cancellation axe...but then came the writer's strike.
