There's supposed to be 17 episodes each for Season Five (the current one) and Season Six (the final season).

EDIT: Arlid beat me by a minute.

her story goes something like this:

* Was in a mental institution with Hurley
* Recovered and became a clinical psychologist
* Fell in love, got married, her husband died
* Met Desmond and gave him her husband's boat
* Ended up on The Island by coincidence/fate
* Recognised Hurley, genuinely liked him
* Didn't want him to find out about her past
* Got shot by Michael

Which is fine as a series of unfortunate events but doesn't really give us any of the big revelations/twists that are so much a part of the show.

anything the viewer didn't actually see can be a fabrication. Libby's husband, physchology background, genuinely going crazy, etc. she could have been planted by Widmore, but then that would mean Widmore would have had to know Hurley would be a big part of the Island way back, giving him some power of precognition, which seems unlikely.

i've always though there's a group of people shaping events in the series that we haven't really seen much of. remember the old precog that told Desmond NOT to get the ring? she was in the photo with the head monk at the monastary. what if there is a group of people like her that have always known what was/is supposed to happen, and have purposefully guided/shaped all events so that it would play out this way... including making Desmond get on that boat to push the button, making Hurley and all the Losties get on flight 815, etc.

Re: Lost: Season 5

I tried to go spoiler free, but broke down and read a bunch of spoilers for season 5.

From what I've read, S5 is going to be mind blowing.

Re: Lost: Season 5

The three episodes of the S4 finale rerun tonight at 8 PM.

Re: Lost: Season 5

I DVR'd the 3 hour long episode from last night while I caught up by watching the last two episodes from last season.

Can you someone tell me if I need to watch the long one from last night now? I heard they were supposed to put a bunch of subtitles of explaination up or something? Any worth while here?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, they ran the 'enhanced episodes' (where they run text at the bottom of the screen that clarifies who people are, why they're doing what they're doing, gives background, etc.). If it's been a while since you've seen the show, it's probably a good refresher course but I'd imagine that the clip show that runs next week will fill you in too.

Re: Lost: Season 5

i hope they address (early in this season) why Kate got a vision telling her not to bring Aaron. does the Island want all of them back or not? who's lying? of course it's likely Ben, but the vision may not have been the Island's

I read a plausible theory that explains this perfectly. It's only a theory, but I'm putting it in spoiler tags just in case:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Charlie's warning to Jack (passed on by Hurley) and Claire's warning to Kate may not actually have been about baby Aaron. We assumed that Charlie's message - "You're not supposed to raise him!" - referred to Jack and Kate raising Aaron together, and that Claire's message - "Don't you dare bring him back!" - referred to Aaron returning to the island. However... what if by "him" they actually meant John Locke?

"You're not supposed to RAISE him (FROM THE DEAD)."
"Don't you dare BRING HIM BACK (TO LIFE)."

Puts things in a whole new light, doesn't it?

Uh... it was a dream, not a vision.

Of course a dream could still mean something, or even be a vision. But I just saw the episode today, and that sequence was a dream -- therefore it need not mean anything beyond Kate's internal conflicts.

I think you're just splitting hairs. We've seen plenty of evidence that the island can communicate with certain people via dreams. How do you know this was just a dream?

Assuming I make it through the rest of the day without the radio sneaking in an ad I have remained spoiler free. I have not watched one commercial or read any of the spoiler sights for this season. 9pm can not get here fast enough.

Those captions are truly crappy, on the last show they were reminding us of things we'd watched 15 minutes prior.
And who really needed, with the London bridge and Millineum Wheel in the background, 'this flash forward takes place in London?'

Re: Lost: Season 5

Wow, great two episodes.

For a second there at the end, I thought the woman from Desmond's original time-traveling was going to end up being Farraday's mother, but I think now after that ending that I was wrong.

One question answered....Only to have more mysteries shown.

Also, any idea how many episodes this season?

Wasn't it originally supposed to be 18, but after the writers' strike they switched it to 20?

Re: Lost: Season 5

^There's 17 episodes this and next season (so there's 15 left this year).

Crazy opening to the year. I can't wait to see where they go.

I had a chuckle at the gag of having Cheap Trick's 'Dream Police' playing in the convenience store after Hurley saw Ana Lucia.

This may very well be the best television series of all time.

Excellent kick-off. Very well paced too.

Re: Lost: Season 5

Wow.

I have always found LOST season premieres to be a bit underwhelming (except the opening scene which is often great) rather than explosive like the finales, but this certainly was the exception.

When you take a step back and try to think of the extreme non-linearity of this 2h premiere, where even what would normally be the present (Sawyer, Juliette etc...) is also unstuck in time, when you think that despite all that the story never loses you, you realize what a phenomenal job the people behind this show have accomplished with this premiere (in with the series in general.)

Re: Lost: Season 5

One word: brilliant.

I (almost) feel a touch of sadness when I think of all those who gave up on LOST.

While I have always been a "die-hard" fan of the show, tonight's premiere (especially when seen in light of the entire series) solidified LOST as one of the greatest TV shows of all time.

For the detractors who endlessly spew such gems as "oh they are making it up as they," I would put forth the following: if that's the case, it seems to be a pretty damned good way to do things

So how many episodes is 70 hours supposed to translate to?

Re: Lost: Season 5

Great episode tonight, can't wait for the rest of it now.

Frogurt as said above, at first I was like "who the fu....oh nevermind" hahahaha

Does anyone have any faith that the writers can wrap any of this up in a decent fashion that won't just end in disappointment? I feel like I'm being set up for a huge let down, because the show is so damn good and they have opened so many doors, I just can't see how they can wrap it up without it being a WTF moment at the end.
What ever they do I'm in for the full ride and loving every second of it.

I knew Neil was toast from the beginning, as he was wearing a red shirt when we first saw him.

Re: Lost: Season 5

So, I'm pretty sure most of us had it pegged from the beginning, but seeing Dr. Candle taking care of the baby at the start of tonight's episode all but confirmed in my mind that he's Miles' father.

I'm still wrapping my head around these "rules" of time travel.

So, could Faraday talk to Desmond because they had already met previously at Oxford? I wonder why Desmond didn't recognize him. Was it because though they had met in the "past" (taking a linear view of time), with respect to Desmond's consciousness it was still a future event? But then, how was present-day Desmond's consciousness tied in with it? Were there two consciousnesses (I'm so tempted to call them conscii) inhabiting Desmond's "past" self at that time, one of whom was the present-day Desmond in his sleep? Or, if the present-day consciousness temporarily displaces the old one (as "The Constant" seemed to imply), then what would be the point of Faraday's giving present-day Desmond instructions about events he'd already experienced and couldn't change anyway? Unless Faraday didn't know his efforts were futile, I guess. But he seems to have been pretty spot-on with his predictions up to this point.
