Becket comes to BD in November

It seems that the restored "Becket" is to be released on BD late November according to DVD Beaver.Good news that another classic is getting the high def treatment.

However, I have only seen a short clip of the recently released "restored " SD DVD and it looked pretty poor for something that was supposedly "restored" . While I'm not trying to pour cold water on the announcement, would any one who has the SD care to comment on how they think it will look on BD?

Re: Becket comes to BD in November

I have the SD DVD. I do have to agree that the image was only average at best, and I don't know how it will look on BD. But, it is one of my favorite movies, so I'll definitely pick this up when it comes out.

Okay, this has been out for a few years yet I don't see any news on it - is the blu ray a big improvement over the dvd ?

I don't know if it is an appreciable upgrade. The BD was taken from the same restoration. It may be the best it's ever looked, but the picture is soft and DNR was applied rather liberally. Still, it's a great movie and it doesn't look bad by any means.

Here's a comparison from DVD Beaver:
