If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Thread Starter
If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Although Hendrix would certainly be cool, I have to vote for Keith Moon.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

It would have to be both John Lennon and George Harrison.

Freddie, Jimi and Jim Morrison would be nice as well. All gone way too early.

Joe Strummer for one last Clash show.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

For me, it would have to be Freddie Mercury and John Lennon. I miss them both. Also, bring back George Harrison for one last Beatles reunion.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Freddie Mercury. Much to my eternal regret, I never saw them live. As at 1991, Singapore was still a bit of a backwater on the world concert tour schedule, but since then some notable acts have visited; had Freddie lived and Queen continued to tour, there is some chance they would have made it here.

I continue to hold faint hopes that Pink Floyd (including both Gilmour and Waters) will re-form and tour, but that seems unlikely. OT, since they're not dead, though I suppose one could argue the band is 'dead'. Barrett is indeed sadly deceased, but I'm referring to the 4-man lineup post-Syd anyway.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Buddy Holley. How about Jerry Garcia?

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Definitely Freddie Mercury, followed by Bonham. I would've loved to see Queen live with Mercury but I was too young the last time they toured my area.

I can't forget Stevie Ray Vaughn, either.

While my pick would be Freddie Mercury, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Elvis is leading the poll.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Jaco Pastorius - bass player for the jazz fusion band of the 70s and 80s Weather Report, whose bass solos in the higher register (and other talents) granted his being voted "The Greatest Bass Player that ever lived" in 2006. Although rock was not his genre, still an outstanding musician.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Elvis is leading?? Don't you have to be dead to be eligible???

I gotta go with Lennon/Harrison.

Moon's a great choice too, but you gotta dig up Entwistle as well for the full Who reunion.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Lennon - easy choice...

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Hendrix...I'd love to see what he could do with all the guitar toys thesedays.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Freddie Mercury. Queen was my very first concert in 1980.

Phil Lynott. His death broke my heart more than any other musician.

I'm surprised no one has brought up Kurt Cobain in this thread (well, I just did ). I never much liked Nirvana, but his passing certainly affected a generation of fans...

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

I would have to say Buddy Holly. It would have been really interesting to see what he would do next and how he'd continue to influence others. Now I have to dig up my Buddy Holly records.

All do respect to all those that passed on the list but Sid Vicious being listed? Other than having "the look" he didn't contribute to the Sex Pistols. Not really a musician.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Well, for one day only, I'd have to say Bonham, for the day of the Led Zep reunion last year, but I'd actually be more interested in what Lennon would have achieved, had he lived till now.

I don't know if I'd call them rock stars, but important performers for sure

Karen Carpenter
Jim Croce
George Carlin

Either Freddie or Stevie Ray...

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Michael Hedges, who died tragically in 1997 when his car skidded off a Californian road and down a cliff.

His advanced technique, song writing, and use of altered tunings were without parallel.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

I thought about this for awhile.....and there are just too many obvious choices that are way too-easy (Morrison, Moon, Bonham, Joplin, Hendrix, Cobain, Bon Scott, etc.....)

I'm going to go slightly off of the beaten path and say Cliff Burton. At this point there is nobody else that can possibly rescue Metallica from the pit of irrelevance in which they have been residing for nearly 20 years.

....or to go really off track, why not Mozart? He was certainly a rock-star of his era. I couldn't imagine what he would think of today's music.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

My first reaction was Lennon followed closely by Zappa and Zevon.

Lennon, Harrison, Holly...and Keith Relf anyone?

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

So many, but I'll give mention to Duane Allman because he hasn't been mentioned yet.

But if I could play God this one time, no doubt I'm bringing back Stevie Ray Vaughan.

That would make for one hell of a duet.
