iTunes Problem: Third Computer Can't See Or Be Seen

Installed iTunes on all 3 PC's here. 2 XP and 1 Vista. The bar PC for music and my laptop can see and share, but my bedroom PC isn't getting on the network. Dunno if this makes a difference, but the laptop and bar are wireless and this one is hard into the router.

I checked firewall settings and they seem to be the same for all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Make sure your cable is not Defective..that would be the 1st thing to check

Are you set to obtain IP automatically on the bedroom PC?? Check the WorkGroup name on the Bedroom PC.

Re: iTunes Problem: Third Computer Can't See Or Be Seen

Getting XP and Vista to play nice on a network together has proven very difficult for me. I still have difficulty. I suspect the same for you.

In my case I can get them to share an internet connection. I can also 'see' them on the network. I just can't seem to get them to share files. MS has not made the task easy. (They want you to have all VISTA whether you like it or not)

It can be done - I just don't have the time to dedicate to figuring it out. I'm pretty sure this is your problem, but more details would help;

Can you share files between all of your computers?
Which computers are running which OS and which are working with iTunes?

Re: iTunes Problem: Third Computer Can't See Or Be Seen

I have 2 XP and on Vista. The basement XP and Vista laptop talk with each other nicely. The main PC I use for stuff in my bedroom, hard wired to the router is the problem.

And the Cat5 is fine between the "invisible" pc and the router.

Note to Add: I use iTunes because I was told it will work with all PC's in the house. If there is an alternative, FREE, player that will work with all my 'puters...I am open to suggestions.

Double check the cat5 cable. Is it yellow? There is a difference between a LAN cable and a cat5. I believe one has the #4 and #5 wires inverted...

Congrats on getting your xp and vista to play nice together.

Are you able to swap files between your two xp computers?

Dang... I posted a reply to this yesterday, but it vanished.

The Cat is Blue. I haven't tried swapping files yet...just want to get all 3 PC's love one another for now.

I would guess you are using a wrong cable. I wouldn't bet lunch on it, but I would suspect that is your problem. Cables are cheap. Try it out.
