Insane.
Warner... what is your problem? Honestly... even Sony managed to put inefficient PCM on their BD25 releases. Can't you even manage TrueHD? With all those other discs in the set... plenty of room for bonus material elsewhere, if the BD25 was the limiting factor.
I just don't get it. Why release it on Blu-ray at all if only with Dolby Digital lossy sound? Just wait a while until BD50 replication is more readily available. I was going to purchase this disc sight unseen even without having seen the film. Now, it's a no-sale.
Shame on you Warner... you said you were going to turn a new leave with consistent lossless audio on HD media!

| Here's some official details for Warner's Speed Racer, set to debut on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 9/16. The DVD will be available in anamorphic widescreen and full frame versions (SRP $28.98 each), each with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras will include 2 featurettes (the Spritle in the Big Leagues tour of the set with Paulie Litt, and a Speed Racer: Supercharged! featurette on the drivers, cars and tracks of the World Racing League). The Blu-ray Disc version will include that, along with a Speed Racer: Car-Fu Cinema featurette on the special effects, the Speed Racer: Crucible Challenge interactive game and a Digital Copy version of the film. Unfortunately, we've confirmed that the Blu-ray is a BD-25 with just Dolby Digital 5.1 audio rather than TrueHD, which is a real shame. If ever a film deserved BD-50/TrueHD treatment on Blu-ray, it's this one. I suppose, however, in light of how badly the film tanked, it shouldn't be unexpected. In any case, we can also confirm that the Blu-ray will be a 3-disc set (though sadly, not as good as it sounds), including the BD disc and 2 DVD discs, one with the Digital Copy and one with the Speed Racer: Crucible Challenge interactive game. |
