Skype!

I used Skype while traveling in Costa Rica this week, and the sound quality is amazing, like better than AT&T's cell service in lower Manhattan. I did an iPhone to iPhone, Skype to Skype conversation with a friend in California, and it was like he was standing next to me. Called Italy, it is just great.

For anyone who makes international calls or travels abroad, Skype is an absolute must. It replaced Notepad on my home screen.

Re: What iPhone/Touch apps have you downloaded?

My favorite app that I've downloaded has to be the game GALCON. It is a simple strategy game. You can play it as a mindless endeavor, but it also has depths in human behavior analysis and strategy if you let yourself get sucked in - as I have...

Rowmote -- very responsive remote for Front Row, etc. Especially if you have a system that doesn't come with or support the Apple Remote.

Big Stopwatch. Beautifully designed stopwatch.

Alert for DVDPedia users: PocketPedia2 is now out. (Free download).  Has two way synch.
So glad I had the first Pocketpedia, it still has the amazon blocked info on ther e that the new pedia can't access.
Is it still returning search results?
No, but nearly all of the 1300 dvds I had before the amazon thing happened still have the dvd info there, on the
pedia 2 it is blank except for a note saying amazon won't allow the info to show.

My Pedia2 seems to have the release specs. Plot synopsis appears to be hit and miss, but I'm not seeing any note about Amazon's disallowing information.
Ok, right.
I see the release date too, but when i press the 3 horizontal lines it brings up the amazon note.

Also I see you can change star rating in pedia 2, can't in pedia 1.

Do you have Quantum of Solace? I have a plot summary for that one. If there's no summary it just says "No summary."

Nope Never picked that one up.
You can keep PocketPedia side by side PocketPedia2.  The only catch is that synching PocketPedia requires *Pedia 4.5.3 or earlier for synch to work.  I synched it before upgrading and and saved the 4.5.3 Pedias in a safe place.  Of course if the DB format becomes incompatible in the future with the older *Pedia you will no longer be able to synch newer entries.  Hopefully by then Amazon will have recovered its sanity, or we will have the info from other sources.

The main question remains if IMDB info gets treated as Amazon info?  If so, we are screwed...  Big chance for Barnes & Nobles

Speaking of the IMDB - there is now (finally) an official IMDB app.

Universal Infrared Remote (for HT components, etc.): RedEye
It is now out of beta.  The app is free, the hardware costs $188.  It is a learning remote, but they reportedly have predefined codes for 500+ manufacturers.

I'm waiting for a review from a trusted source on this one, but unless it proves a dud I'll definitely pick it up.  However if some eager HTfer wishes to step in to the breach, a review would be most welcome.

Not only that but it makes the feature I use most in IMDB (cast look-ups) even easier to navigate than the web site itself.

Plants Vs. Zombies is out for iPhone.

It's $2.99 and has a good chance of beating Pocket God for the title of "Best iPhone game ever"

If you don't like this game on iPhone there's a good chance you should give up video games altogether =)
