Swing Vote

This is definitely one I'm looking forward to this summer movie season after all the superhero movies and big-budget action flicks. The cast is superb: Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper, Kelsey Grammer and Stanley Tucci, just to name a few. Plus I hear there will be a few cameos from some notable media figures as well - which is always fun. It's in theaters Aug 1.

Re: Swing Vote

I think the premise is very interesting (if a bit unrealistic). I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Swing Vote

Yeah, the premise is certainly a bit of a stretch, but what movie premise isn't right? It actually sparked a 30 minute conversation b/w my friend and I regarding the merits and the constraints of the Electoral College - we need to get lives...

Anyway, yeah - I think the film's satirical qualities seem to give way a bit to the guys personal journey - I don't think the film is trying to make any bold statements here about our government or it's current state - just make a warm, fun, Kevin Costner summer flick... and I'm game for that.

Re: Swing Vote

It looks pretty stupid, but the scene in the trailer between Stanley Tucci and the candidate hints at a little more than just "doofus decides election." And I'm a sucker for Kevin Costner in crowd pleasers, so I'll probably check it out.

This should have been a Made for TV movie.

Re: Swing Vote

I'm with Adam: the previews look abysmal.

This also tells me it won't be very good: almost every "big cast" movie that grabbed my attention over the past 15 years has been disappointing. I now see the super-cast as a warning flag on a movie.

But I've seen previews mis-characterize movies badly, so maybe this will be sharper than it looks. And the best comedy I've seen in years (aside from Surf's Up) was the satire Thank You for Smoking, so it would be fun to get another witty satire.
