That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end - Page 3

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

While I'm certainly glad to hear the Tunes will continue, I will still miss the Gold collections. They are/were wonderful packages with great extras and variety. I'm particularly elated that the final volume contains a disc dedicated to early Bosko/Buddy/MMs, some of which I've never seen. I hope WB will continue to release the early stuff in whatever form they choose.

As long as it's around the same number of restored shorts (or more!), I'll be happy no matter how it's packaged.

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

My guess is that we'll be looking at sets based around different LT characters coming out after Vol 6. A quick count of how many unreleased on GC shorts some characters have gave me the following:
Bugs Bunny - 76
Tweety - 25
Foghorn - 26
RR & Coyote - 26
Speedy - 24
I'd guess 2 disc sets, the first DVD revolving around a single character and the second DVD possibly a "...and Friends" disc.

Great news, but why are those cartoons considered "bonus" cartoons? I sure hope they're also restored...

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

I hope the bonus cartoons are restored too, but the fact that four of them have music-only tracks is a good sign that they will be -- I can't see Warner going to the bother of adding such tracks to unrestored shorts. The MGM shorts may not be restored, however.

Either way, this will be a terrific set -- I can't get over how much great material is on it.

Sigh

While I'll definitely purchase this, I can't believe we're still not getting Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips or Coal Black.

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

I can see why. If they have to put warnings on non-censored discs, do you think the Censored 11 have any chance of turning up legally in the near future?

Considering all the heat that new Disney movie is getting, I wouldn't expect any of these or something like SONG OF THE SOUTH anytime soon.

The likes of Warner and Disney are just too big for that type of film to be released.

Which Disney film is that?

Not sure what it's called, but I'm thinking it's the one where a black girl is the main character. Don't know why that would cause controversy though.

As for the "Banned" cartoons. WB has know from day one that the fans have wanted these, but they still haven't released them, so I would say there's not a very good chance they will ever be released. Racial controversy is just too dangerous and wayyyyy to easy to fall into at this point in time

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

Yeah, but the last time a studio did release truly controversial stuff like this (Disney's On the Front Lines dvd), there was no uproar at all. I think they might be scared, but the truth is if they did release it, any complaints would be transitory at best.

What I find funny is the Universal "Woody Woodpecker And Friends" are full of racial stereotypes, yet I don't think there's any warnings on the discs or the packaging about controversial material, definitely nothing like the forced intros Warners and Disney use. Yet... the world hasn't ended....

There is a statement on the back cover saying that the set is intended for the adult collector.

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

For anyone who's just getting into these, I was @ Costco last weekend and they had volumes 2-5 for $24.99 each. I picked up volume three and will likely pick up the others later. Now I just need to find volume one.

FWIW, I was watching these with my boys (8 and 11) earlier this week. While some of the shorts do have racial stereotyping, I found nothing I wasn't comfortable watching with my kids, and much of what we saw made for interesting and constructive discussions afterwards.

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

The new Disney film is called "The Princess and the Frog"

It was supposed to be called "The Frog Princess," but that's supposedly insulting to the French.

And on IMDB I read how some African-American of some prominence bemoaned that it was set in New Orleans, site of Hurricane Katrina (no doubt this film's setting will predate it).

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Yeah, because the character of "Le Frog," voiced by Jean Reno in Flushed Away, was so much more PC.

A few more years, and we won't be able to speak the English language at all.

Re: That's All Folks!! - Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, the end

The Princess and the Frog is looking to be the kind of movie that winds up being utterly neutered by political correctness. Go take a look at the listings on the IMDb regarding changes to the original script if you don't believe me.
