I have a question I've been thinking about - How effective would carpeting a whole room (walls and ceiling included) for soundproofing a room? I just saw a show on HGTV where they used carpet tiles, and thought that would be great for a HT room if it worked!

Re: Soundproofing
I think the room would be too dead, you do need some reflections, especially for the surround speakers. I also think the room would be one big bass trap, kiling those frequencies as well.

Re: Soundproofing
For soundproofing, staggered studs, insulation and double drywall will be much more effective.

Re: Soundproofing
Accoustics and soundproofing are two very different things. The carpet tiles will help/hurt accoustics depending on how they are used.Like John said, staggered studs, double drywall, etc are used for soundproofing. In my media room, I used staggered studs and the walls stuffed with insulation. It is great about eliminating outside noised. It does NOTHING to keep in the sound. I would have needed double drywall on both the theater and the other rooms that touch the theater. I would also need some type of raised floor because my subs can send shockwaves through the concrete foundation of my house. I have over 5,000sf of foundation under the roof and I can feel the bass at all corners even if I can't hear it.
